Unfortunately, many music schools and music studios leave it at that. Founded in 1988, Westside Music School's music instruction and teachers believe that to learn to play the piano, or any instrument, the music begins long before a student is able to read notes on a page. Music begins within each of us - through listening, singing and rhythmic activities.
The Westside Music School philosophy is founded on the Harmony Road Curriculum, where students learn by doing: first by honing the ear and singing; then by singing and playing on the piano or keyboard; finally bringing the student's music education full circle by reading notes.

Claudia has been a music lover her entire life. Very early, she felt the calling to become a music teacher, working with several students while she was still in high school. She has been a student of music throughout her life and career (see list of degrees and certifications below). She began her professional career as a music instructor in 1979 with the Keyser Music Center.
The Harmony Road Philosophy stresses learning by doing. Imitative singing - by copy, by ear with hints, by ear - helps develop pitch and learn melodic patterns. Repetition is critical to develop musical memory. Short patterns will soon become a part of longer phrases. Phrases will become songs! The voice is our first and most musical instrument!
Many music schools deliver music lessons in a one on one setting which can be intimidate younger children, as well as depriving them of the opportunity to learn from and be encouraged by other students and parents. At Westside Music School parents are encouraged to participate in music classes with their children.
