East Bay Music Center Since 1968, young artists have been discovering how training in the arts can and does illuminate their fullest capacity as human beings while at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, in a neighborhood known as the Iron Triangle and distinguished primarily for its chronic poverty and violence. For over 50 years, in the heart of Richmond, California, more than 50,000 student artists - from all walks of life - have shared a home where they have found within themselves the means to develop skills that enable them to think, lead, and contribute to the world around them.
Services
Private lessons, year round group classes and performance ensemble training opportunities are offered in the following core repertoire areas: West African Music and Dance, Classical Music, Jazz, Hip-Hop/Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Regional Mexican Music and Dance, Trinidadian Steel Pans, Southeast Asian Music and Dance, Theater, Voice, and Media/Digital Film Arts.
Currently we are planning for all group classes to be in-person. Since space is limited, we ask that students don't sign up for more than two group classes this session. For more information, please contact Kwesi Anku, Associate Director of Student Development and Training, at 510-323-4495 or kwesi@eastbaycenter.org.
The Young Artist Diploma Program provides up to six-years of tuition-free study designed to give students a critical set of skills they will be able to use in college and beyond. Through the intensive study of music, dance, theater, filmmaking/digital media arts as well as participation in our community's civic life, the program challenges students to discover their individual gifts and build a vision of their direction in a complex world.
East Bay Center's programs in schools promote equitable access to the arts in West Contra Costa Unified School District by partnering with high need schools to provide foundational hands-on experiences for 3,500 students in culturally diverse art forms for children and youth. Through exposing students to world traditions in music, dance, theatre, and 21st century digital arts, we provide consistent, sequential instruction, working with school staff and faculty to reach the whole child's development.

I was one of the first original members of Richmond Bloco while studying under Shannon Dudley. I played lead and seconds on the steel pan. I miss the old building, and the old staff. Great times!

My two girls went through the diploma program and they were taught not only music but received exposure to world-class performing arts -- ballet, spoken word, steel drum, african and mexican dance, acting, singing. And all they ask was the commitment. This is a truly amazing place.
