Traditional groundwork, grouped with technological innovation and critical thinking is what drives our programs forward. Updated the Almost Honest Impulses for more of a high gain sound using the TSE-X50 Here are the new impulses, one left and one right with the designation "X50" in their titles to distinguish them from the older impulses Here is what they sound like Here is a REAPER RFX Chain, of both of the. To me, one of the Holy Grails of guitar sounds is at the beginning of Megadeth's Almost Honest.

My friends were visiting Kailua on a rainy day and saw the Ukulele classes being offered at the music school. Two hour class with a very attentive fun instructor named Aaron. They left the school with a little momento (a cute soprano Ukulele) and the confidence to play this amazing instrument. Their daughter was especially thrilled with this experience. Highly highly recommend!

Kailua Music School Confidence Rocks! I understand that all of the students are under 18 years old. So please do not take any of my review as criticism but as a means of congratulating those adults for working with teens and keiki towards mentoring them into loving music even more. "Confidence Rocks!" seems to be your mission or mantra so I can fully agree with that message that you want to mentor keiki to learn a skill like music that they enjoy so that they may be more confident in all that they do - growing into confident adults. Wonderful.
I too Wish it could be closer to town, but knowing it is available helps build the community. I am always curious to see new talent which helps to keep our musical community here in Hawaii so vibrant. Erin Smith and the Kailua Music School presented original music showcases at the Republik and Doris Duke Theater. Professional venues that would build any artists resume well.
Each artist was between 13 and 18 years old, so the skill level was that of a learner. Shows like American Idol thrive on conflict and being able to put artists down in front of a whole live tv audience. Here at this event- there was -from the artists standpoint on stage- no one in the audience that wasn't either ohana or friends. Even then - some of the artists were so nervous but still made it through their set.
Here is some of what I heard. My favorite song of the night was from a girl that sang in the style of a Twilight film '1,000 Years' type love song. The girl was able to release her voice after she got through the first verse, with enough practice she could one day be able to have her voice carry emotion beyond the recording equipment to the listener similar to how Adele is able to portray emotion so well.
One girl was really able to change tempo really well in the song. Again similar to how well Adele changes octaves in her voice seamlessly; with enough practice she too may be able to practice a song well enough to hit changes that really stuns an audience. One girl was in the similar genre as Pink that uses a harder rock tone but still trys to convey a modern contemporary female voice style to singing across to covey deep emotions but still needs practice to fit and fill the voice to the audience.
Maybe one of the crowd favorites was a song that mash-upped original content with Michael Jackson 'Human Nature.' As a listener- I would have liked to have heard some teases of MJ before the ending, maybe like a few of the lyrics from a verse- even if sung into the original content- not stealing but fair use as a teaching tool used only in a live show.
That would have given me as the music listener a clearer direction of the artist so as to see a better range. One girl was able to do a song in the Counting Crows style that really did show her differences- it would be great to hear her cover a Counting Crows so that it is familiar enough to the audience but that we could appreciate her as an individual artist.
Another student did a song that reminded me of the Paula Abdul style- Paula came at singing from the choreography side of music instead of "Straight Up" (pun intended) vocals. Using a student's hidden talents to promote their musical style is wonderful. Questions I would have if they were adults and not students. What is their octave range? Why didn't you do a show at one of the many malls to catch new listeners?
Could you have pre-recorded some of the guitar music for the show? Some of the students are new at guitar- again, Confidence Rocks! So I understand the decision to let them both sing and play for the show. "Confidence Rocks!" Great use of social media to get the word out on your events. Nice clear web presence that shares what you are able to offer students.
Clear means of helping students learn skills. Nice. I look forward to hearing in the not too distant future some of the up and coming artists. Music is a horrible business for many so it is wonderful to see that Erin and the school are making every effort to instill confidence in students through music. Confidence Rocks!

My kids have been taking music lessons at KMS for a couple of years now. Great teachers (especially Aaron and Erin!) One of my boys (eleven years old) really was encouraged to be in a band and now plays Boardriders and Hardrock Cafe. Super fun way to learn an instrument; teachers are very supportive.
