Roxy Music was founded in 1939 by Ray Ratajik and Paul LeResch. Both played in local area band venues and realized the need for a local musical instrument store. Ray played clarinet, and Paul was a trumpet player, and later actually built trumpets to sell at Roxy Music. Both were very talented, and well known in the northern Indiana and southern Michigan areas.
The very first location of Roxy Music was at the corner of Indiana and Lincolnway in downtown La Porte. Roxy Music was one of three other establishments in the huge "Roxy Theater" plaza on the corner.

True creativity requires something new, something like the inspiring sound and feel of the Malibu Player. The exclusive small-body shape's short scale gives it a slightly "slinkier" feel, encouraging you to reach for new chords and melodies. It looks as stunning as it sounds, with a gloss metallic solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, as well as a matching painted 6-in-line headstock and creme binding giving it a shot of electrifying attitude. The bold style and balanced, articulate sound make the Malibu Player a natural partner on stage and in the studio.

I have been thinking for 15 years on how I would review this place. I got a guitar here right after coming home from the Marines. I was discharged for health reasons, and distraught, and my SSGT told me to go home put my name on the radio. It was hard and I came home to buy a Fender Mustang. Put my own pickups in it, and spent the next few years playing it into the ground.
Before that, I would avoid the rest of my life, back in high school and middle school (oh but of course I'm not criticizing the public schools) by coming here to be around musical instruments. They let me get away with it until about my 17th birthday. The staff and I go back and forth, but they know me by name and they treat me with old fashioned respect.
The staff is quirky, but completely harmless and deeply educated, and have been keeping this store open for literally as long as I can remember. My town is losing the culture war, so to speak, becoming just another modern town, wrapped up in red tape and politics, but this place is one of the few ways we have let to claim small town status. We still get to be a little town, individual and independent and singular and free, and this is one reason why.
Leave here and go get a cup of coffee at Louie's with your new band mates, and then go hang out in a cornfield basement, garage, barn, or gutted school bus and write songs about stuff.

Pleasantly surprised. Great sales staff very friendly. Large selection of music items (I'm a guitar guy). I discovered the guitar room in the back of the store and to my surprise I spied a Martin D-18 and purchased. Had been through several guitar "setups" and they were small night mares. Reed completed the process in a couple of days and it was awesome. Thank you, I will be back.

The staff was awesome. I made a special trip from Illinois to pick up a white penguin accoustic parlor gretsch and was very pleased with the service. I keep coming back to this shop. It has a real hometown feeling. I go out of my way to shop here. Our family members are frequent customers. Thank you for the great experience once again.

Very Knowledgeable and friendly staff and music instructors here! Very accommodating. They had no problems with scheduling 3 children for 4 separate lessons (vocal, , , and ) even with me requesting back to back lessons for 2 of the children with 3 lessons! The children really look forward to taking these lessons and the cost is so much less than I imagined.
I actually signed the children up at a time when there was a really great price break going on (I wasn't even aware of the deal!) The prices of equipment and instruments are fantastic as well. It's just an all around fantastic music store

Just got off the phone after talking to "Bill" who was as pleasant as an infected hemorrhoid! Talk about deadpan. I was nice and kind and all he could answer to any of my questions was an emphatic, "NO" and that is before I finished the sentence. Sad. What a turn-off to someone new to the area or someone seeking advice or just general info. Also, this attitude is bad for business.
If this is the way this store treats people on the phone; what is it like to be there in person? For those students burgeoning on a musical career; phone another music store because music should be fun, interested, invited, etc. BTW, this is the 2nd music store I have dealt with who had a lousy attitude from the beginning. That particular store is going out of business. Wonder why?
