Cool place, but The gentleman working the counter is very unfriendly doesn't even greet the customers, was going to make a purchase today but I did not. Because he would not help me and seems like he doesn't want anyone there. I've dealt with this a few times now. Just kinda gives you a dirty look when you walk in and doesn't do anything beyond that.

I was searching for a particular Telecaster and found one at a price that seemed too good to be true - and it was supposedly in excellent condition. When I clicked on the link, I was surprised that the seller was Woodsy's. I knew Woodsy's well from my days as a student at nearby Kent State University, and it was the store where my dad once bought an acoustic guitar that became my first beater. Woodsy's shipped my Tele quickly (for free) and it was even better than described. I can't be happier and highly recommend them.

Had a brand new set of bass strings break on me right out of the package, the gave me a new set no questions asked. Always had a pleasant experience there, they have a really great selection of consumables for a store of their size. I go there often, and will continue to go. If only they had a baritone electric guitar selection. I'd just have to say "shut up, and take my money."

One of my guitars had low E (and some A) fret buzz. It's a strange beast -- a Brian May replica, a nice mid-price guitar with some unique qualities and quirks. I don't play it much so it lives in its case most of the time so was blemish free and in shiny nearly-new condition. I'm not a guitar setup expert but can handle the basics (truss rod, bridge saddles, intonation etc).
I had tried everything but couldn't get rid of the buzz. It has a zero fret so not much that could be done with the nut. So, I figured it needed professional attention and brought it in. I explained the problem to the guy at the desk and he said they would check it out and do a complete setup ($85 + strings). When went to pick it up I tried it out in the store and the buzz was still there along with lots of swirly scratches all over the body and the finish on the fingerboard was messed up (it had been shiny ebony, now it is dulled in many places and ugly looking probably from the fret polishing which was included in the setup).
To add insult to injury the guy on the desk said there was no fret buzz. I could hear it plainly but realised arguing would not be productive. I just gave up, paid and went home as I couldn't be bothered with more hassle. I don't think I will be going back in a hurry. That was $85 wasted and the guitar came back in worse condition than it was before! Udate: After speaking with Paul (the store owner?) I brought my guitar back.
I met with Don, the guitar tech/repair guy, who worked with me to get my guitar set up. He was great and went over everything with me and made some more adjustments. The guitar now plays as well as is going to. Thanks Don for taking the time to help me out.

I went in for a hi hat clutch, which they refused to sell me unless it was connected to a hi hat stand. They had numerous hi hat clutches in bags that were some strange new free floating system. Wouldn't just sell me a normal hi hat clutch that I knew would connect to my hi hat stand. On tour and in a pinch these guys are not coming through for the average musician on the road. Would not recommend.

I ordered an Eastman acoustic guitar from Woody's. It was shipped promptly and arrived well-packed a 3 days later. It had a problem with the neck joint that was cosmetic (not structural) that should have never passed Eastman's quality control. After communicating with Paul at Woodsy's they refunded me part of the cost to avoid shipping it back for refund. I will definitely do business with Woodsy's again.

I have bought a few things for my instruments here. They have a decent selection and I really like that it is a locally owned business. The staff has always been kind and helpful. I also have known people to rent their sound equipment and they were affordable and easy to work with. It's nice to walk down the alleyway next to building in summertime and here students practicing their music.

I've been shopping here for my guitar needs since the 80's. Woodsy's still exudes the vibe of what Kent used to be. A vibrant little art/music community. They've helped me throughout the years, and are now helping with my teenage son's drum lesson & accessories. The staff are honest and helpful, their prices are more than fair, the owner is a really good guy. I'll continue coming here whenever possible. If you're in town, check them out.
