I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music with a degree in musical composition. I offer lessons in music composition, arranging, orchestration, songwriting, theory and ear training. In my opinion, this is the best, clearest book on musical composition out there. It completely changed my compositional thinking to focus more on principles and craft. For most students I will use this text, and we will work through the exercises progressively from motif to writing in sonata form. This text is definitely not lightweight, but it is the most comprehensive book on the topic.
