The Music Institute of Chicago has taken a multi-faceted approach to improving diversity and inclusion within our organization. The first step was creating a Working Group for Diversity and Inclusion. Led by Trustees Barbara Sereda and Carlos Cardenas, the group is comprised of MIC faculty, staff, parents, students, and other interested community members.
Founded in 1931, the Music Institute of Chicago is a nonprofit community music school that leads people toward a lifelong engagement with music by providing widely accessible resources for high-quality music teaching, performing, and service activities-and harnessing the power of music to educate, inspire, and bring comfort to the communities it serves.
Welcome to the Music Institute of Chicago (MIC), one of the nation's largest and finest community music schools. No matter your age or level of experience, MIC can help you learn to make music. Through an extensive array of programs across a neighborhood network of conveniently located campuses, MIC provides the highest quality music instruction to thousands of students each year.
