Brotherkenzie is the solo output from Minneapolis producer and songwriter Nathan Stocker - and, through the project, lives in the shadows, operating on the outskirts of the music industry, something he's grown increasingly less interested in as he ages. Brotherkenzie's music is a chasm carved from honesty and earnestness, the result teetering between catchiness and pop, but with sharp edges.
On the cover of Nathan, Stocker is about to be enveloped by an enormous black box in a deadened Minnesotan sprawl, framed by the eeriness of placid blue skies, the suggestion of a cold wind.

Received the terrible news that IYE is closing up by end of August. Victim of greedy landlords who want big bucks and long term leases. Tremendous loss for the area! With this location closing and Cambridge about 4 years ago, only Warren RI is left. Real shame, another great cratedigger paradise gone!

Amazing place to get used records, audio equipment, and vintage souvenirs. Also has VHS tapes, music cassette tapes, gentlemen magazines, Rolling Stone magazines, books about movies and music, and other amazing things. I took one star off because it doesn't cater well to women (because of the presence of Playboy magazines, movies that lean more towards the cis straight male interest) and that I was disappointed they didn't have movies about successes LGBT+ people made. The only movie I got was a film called Boys Don't Cry which is extremely graphic at the end and I ended up getting rid of it.

Highly recommend In Your Ear - I went in looking for a specific sound for a record and thought I'd made the right choice until the owner let me know that there may be an even better record that would more closely resemble the sound I was looking for. He played the record for me, we talked and had a great conversation and I walked out with a great record!
I fully trust the owner's opinion here, especially because the vinyl he recommended was even less expensive than the one I'd chosen. He was by no means trying to upsell me into an overpriced record. He truly cared that I went home with a record I'd enjoy. Will be going back, especially when I'm looking for new finds and to explore different types of music.

Rock section is weak, at best. If you are a fan of Jazz & Classical, it's like every other place. Typical snobbery from staff when you mention a group that is modern, or pop post-2000. Not a rap album in site. I would imagine the good stuff you are looking for is online at their site, or everywhere else on the inter webs.

I've been to the store twice now in a month. On my first visit I sold about 70 albums and took a fair store credit. The owner, Reed, is a very knowledgeable and pleasant guy. He is very helpful, and will make a suggestion or two once he knows what you are looking for. I now will consider myself a regular customer. Great way to spend an hour or two digging thru the record vault. Just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get at this store.

If you're looking for an old school record shop with a huge selection, this is the spot! The owner is super helpful & helped me find a treasure: an original Preservation Hall recording. Yes, it's tight quarters.but what would you expect? Anyone who likes old vinyl records will live this place. He also has cassettes, vhs, cds and DVD's. Fantastic spot!

The 50 cent bins are crazy to dig through! In a good way! The guy that runs the place has immense knowledge about music and what's in his store. It is COVERED in records. All for a good price. Amazed to find some beautiful Sun Ra which is super hard to come by. thank you for having us! My only recommendation is do not come with a purse or bag, as you'll be bumping into the stacks of records. Tight squeeze! :

The prices are quite good and the whole place gives you a nostalgic feel. They have a large range of stuff from music of all physical formats to vhs tapes to comics. My favorite thing I saw was a little television playing old programs, which gave a wave of nostalgia. My only problem is that it's horribly organized and could do better in that department.
It almost looks like a really big garage with totes of cd's and vinyl thrown wherever. With better categorizing, a customer could easily find what they need, for a quicker / easier experience. In the end, I've found what I needed. Luckily some things from my favorite artist who I liked were on display, I didn't have to go looking for it for much longer, and the cashier was quite nice when I asked him to take it down from the high shelf for me.

This place has tons of records, cassettes, CD's, 8 tracks, VHS and more. Everything is priced very fairly. I have found tons of gems in this place for only a dollar. The staff is very knowledgeable. My only complaint is that the store isn't organized neatly. However, I would recommend this store to anyone in Boston.

This shop is the real deal. Be prepared to spend at least an hour here. You own it to yourself as a music lover to dig through the 45's, peruse the well-thought-out categories of LP's, and sniff out the cassettes. If you're lucky you'll witness the owner telling off some poor soul who's trying to sell their grandpa's records for gas money.

There are two locations for In Your Ear Records: one in Cambridge and one in Boston. I first stumbled upon the Cambridge location a few years ago and was blown away. So I eagerly anticipated visiting the Boston location, which was said to be larger. Again, it sits underground in what could only be considered a basement piled high with crates and boxes of records, CDs, tapes, old record players, TVs, and just about anything else musically-related you could think of.
Unlike the Cambridge location, I found the Boston space to be a bit disorganized, especially for the CDs. I was looking for hip-hop and the shelves of CDs weren't really labeled. It wasn't until after about 15 minutes of sifting through that I asked a guy who worked there. He told me to go around to this back section that looked like it was for employees only, and there, partially tucked behind some boxes, were the hip-hop CDs.
Once I found them, I easily picked through and found an album to buy. They had some wild music playing throughout the shop and you can tell that the guys who work here are super knowledgeable about all kinds of music genres. With a bit more organization, this place would be perfect. If you really want to get that experience of literally digging to find some classics, check this place out.

In Your Ear is definitely a clusterf@$k but that is certainly part of the charm. This is the definition of no frills! It can look a little hectic upon walking in, but you truly should only go here if you're ready to crate dig! Their newer vinyls are expensive so I would recommend coming here for oldies and hidden gems. My boyfriend is a producer and found so many amazing records to sample.
They have tons of stuff if you're willing to spend the time looking through everything. I also had no problem with the staff. They gave us recommendations and talked music with us. I thought they were wonderful. This is definitely the spot for your vinyl needs!

I was so excited to get back to Boston to hit this store.the reviews are outstanding, record store of the year several times.great selection.etc.etc. Reality is its cramped and unorganized. What was in the bins was not very appealing nor inexpensive.believe the good stock was underneath, but you couldn't really get down on the floor to look through it if there is more than one customer.you have to keep getting up to get out of the way.so that wasn't going to work.
I had on a small backpack and literally I kept hitting the boxes that were stacked down the isle, was afraid I was going to knock down the boxes. Ceiling was peeling paint (inner it was lead based) you could see it all over the floor. The owner (?) was very nice and knew his stuff. That was impressive.but wasn't enough to lift my rating. Ended up not buying anything which is always a disappointment. I wish them well, but it just isn't the environment that I can comfortably shop in (and honestly I'm not really picky!)

I've shopped for vinyl in NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Orlando, Pittsburgh, etc etc. This is the best place I've been to. Part of my choice to move to Boston was to be around this shop - no joke. The place is endless. You can spend hours here and not scratch (excuse the pun) the surface of what they have to offer in vinyl, much less their DVDs, CDs, Posters, Magazines, etc.
Their vinyl is never scratched. It's so rare in a used record shop to not HAVE to check the records before buying them. Even their $0.50 records are in great condition! The place and atmosphere is guaranteed to be interesting. B-Sides don't begin to explain the taste of the employees. They are knowledgable, friendly, and open to suggesting records you might like. This past weekend I was in town for a wedding and took 4 of the 6 hours I had free to hit In Your Ear. I got 12 LPs and 2 45s for $32.00. Can't beat that anywhere.
