Utah Music Teachers

We are an outreach division of Utah Live Bands, LLC. Our goal is to promote music education in our great state, connect students with local music teachers in Utah, sponsor local music festivals and camps and to provide resources to teachers and students. We provide a directory of Utah music instructors, schools and resources on a variety of different instruments.

Joshuas teaching approach includes an emphasis on transcription, note reading, ear training, workable theory, and creativity. His students appreciate a fun, creative approach.

Matt has been playing professionally since his teens, and is considered to be one of Utah's premier jazz bass players. He plays in live settings and in the studio in a variety of genres including classical, jazz, and pop. He has taught both upright bass and bass guitar lessons for many years. In the past he has taught at the University of Utah, BYU, and Snow College.

Highly trained pianist. Recipient of Scholarship Awards to UofU and BYU. Graduated with Bachelor's Degree in Piano from UofU. Have taught for 18 years. I love what I do. I teach using a very unique and incredible Australian- developed piano method called "Simply Music". We have students playing sophisticated, great sounding music(Classical, Blues, Contemporary, Accompaniments) from their very first lessons.

First drum teacher featured on UMT. Mitch's teaching approach is at the cutting edge-he uses methods that make the most sense (like *open-handed drumming), which result in superior skills. Students develop musical maturity through a rigorous focus on fundamentals & styles. It is said that "if you can play jazz, you can play anything!"

Michael Tobian, owner of Utah Music Teachers, teaches classes and directs bands at Brigham Young University as well as Utah Valley University. He has maintained a private saxophone studio for many years. He has authored the text book "fundimentals of jazz improvisation."
