Hawks' Music Studio has been in business for over 50 yrs. I started teaching when I was 10yrs old and never stopped (the best way to learn is to teach what you are being taught). I never refuse a student and will give all a chance. I have terminated lessons when a student showed a lack of respect of the studio or of me.
Music lessons teach a student not only the instrument or Voice but also self-discipline and independence. Group participation is possible once these two skills have been acquired. As the studio grows and there is enough co-operation from students and families, group participation and performance at the Chickasha location is encouraged. The facility houses a full auditorium and accoutrements.
Karaoke backups are used for many of the lessons as it facilitates a consistent accompaniment. After being trained to run professional karaoke shows, I no longer consider it a "cheat" when it comes to performance situations. The current economy forces the use of mechanical means of accompaniment as live accompanists are too expensive.Students are encouraged to bring in CDs, Ipods (etc) with music that interests them.
Online LIVE lessons have been added as a means to expand the scope of the studio. It is even possible to take lessons online for most of the month and to come into the studio for one long lesson to sum up the month's work. DSL, WiFi or cable Modem with a fast broadband system is necessary along with Skype or WinLive.

Report
Besides an instructional studio in music, classes in many needle crafts are also taught. Make your holiday gifts with classes scheduled in plenty of time for you to complete your projects. Some items are offered as free patterns online at the website. Items can be purchased at the website as well. Learn to crochet, knit, and knit-loom.
Bring in patterns that you wish to learn or need made - an honest appraisal will be made as to your ability to handle the task or if we can get the item done in time for your deadline.
We are always looking for independent contractors who make items that we can use in the studio as studio rewards or for consignment. Contact us for details.

Drums and Percussion being her 1st instrument - from day one she guides you through READING music and really LEARNING what it's all about and how it pertains to YOUR instrument. She states that her goal is to get you to the point that you don't need her any longer - NOT to keep you coming back every week, like some teachers do as they teach you to learn by ear and then forget everything by the time you get home.
You can always call her and ask for advice between lessons. Seems like she can solve most everything you're having trouble with (unless it's a broken instrument) over the phone before you practice wrong all week long. She encourages you to compose songs and get "studio points" and her studio points system really gives the kids Incentive to DO the work.
Those points rack up quickly and she's always got handmade stuff for the kids to "buy" with their points. I look forward to what they can bring home during the holidays! They can even contribute to the rewards system and get points for doing so.
