Cockeysville Music Education Center

Cockeysville Music Education Center is a lesson studio offering individualized piano and guitar instruction in a friendly, welcoming environment. We help students of all ages and levels explore music and develop their interests. Whether you are a beginner needing basics, or an advanced player wishing to hone your skills, we are happy to help! Our private lesson setting allows us to accommodate your individual needs and development.

In 1992, three piano instructors came together, each wanting a more professional space than our own homes in which to provide lessons, but still desiring the autonomy of managing our own studios. The idea for a teachers' co-op, then known as Cockeysville Piano Learning Center, was born.

Many traditional music schools are hierarchical by design. An owner or director takes responsibility for all business concerns, and hire teachers as employees, paying them an hourly wage (usually considerably less than the student pays for lessons.) Think of us as a music teacher co-op. Our teachers take care of the business aspects directly, including the advertising, communication, and finances. There's no owner or director or middle-man taking their own cut. All income goes to individual teachers who then contribute to operating expenses.

Cecelia Prinkey is one of the original founders of Cockeysville Music Education Center, and considers teaching piano a way of life. She studied at Towson University and Peabody Conservatory, and has extensive pedagogical training from institutes around the country, including certification as a Suzuki piano teacher.

Alec Davis is a Washington DC area musician, composer, administrator, and pedagogue. He holds a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance with a focus in Piano Pedagogy from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at Catholic University (Washington, DC), where he studied under Dr. James Litzelman.
