Whether in our world-class College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or our award-winning Conservatory of Music-maybe even both-you'll find opportunities to pursue your passions, spark change, and shine more brilliantly than you ever imagined. In the Conservatory, you'll experience a culture of creativity that grounds you in core musicianship while letting your musical imagination take flight.
Lawrence's 1,500 students come from nearly every state and 40 countries and share their light in an engaged-and engaging-community. Whether they choose to study in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or the Conservatory of Music, both dedicated exclusively to undergraduate education, Lawrentians find a welcoming community of scholars and artists.
Lawrence University and the City of Appleton were founded together 175 years ago on the banks of the Fox River. In 1847, Boston merchant Amos A. Lawrence pledged $10,000 to endow a school in the Wisconsin Territory. Lawrence today is what it has been for much of its history-an undergraduate college of the liberal arts and sciences with a Conservatory of Music.
After the initial rush of college-acceptance-induced adrenaline wears off, you may realize that, as an admitted student, you have an entirely new perspective on Lawrence-and a whole lot of new questions. Although this website will serve as a starting point, don't forget that living breathing people (e.g., admissions counselors, student life staff, current students, and professors) are just a phone call or email away. You'll answer a few quick questions about your enrollment decision and then it will guide you through submitting your $400 non-refundable deposit!
We also offer a wide array of online options to help you explore our community and find out if Lawrence is the place where you'll shine. Join us for a campus tour, presentation, student panel, and lunch. Optional afternoon activities for students include a mock First-Year Studies class or college application essay writing workshop while parents/guests can attend a student success panel. Explore the Lawrence campus from wherever you are through a 360-degree walking tour with optional student tour guide audio.

Despite it being a 30° cloudy day with no students on campus, our tour was very nice. The campus offers a great number of vintage buildings along with modern architecture that blends in seamlessly. The campus put off a warm, welcoming vibe even on a day when students were gone for their winter break. Our son was very impressed by the facilities and the variety of course offerings and other opportunities and seems very excited to enroll!

Elite prestigious liberal arts college, one of the best in the Midwest. I'm reviewing the campus as a tourist destination rather than as a place to send your kid to college but if your child can get in as a professor I think you can't do better than a good liberal arts college. Even the best of the great research universities (except the University of Chicago) have distracting party scenes that just aren't as big a temptation at places like this. Anyway, also like other liberal arts colleges, this one is picturesque with a healthy schedule of cultural events.

Strong programs in music and arts, humanities result in lots of very good very affordable (often free) concerts and exhibits. The campus is lovely, though being a professor I prefer it during semester breaks when it's not covered in college students. Great college library. Appleton is an economically depressed de-industrialized town with an island of high culture that is this college (yes technically a university, but it's more of a liberal arts college). A unique boutique hotel in an historic restored building and a couple of good restaurants all in walking distance makes this a fun affordable two day destination.

Great school, awesome services, love the community and the professors are the best, very demanding but always available and very helpful. Food is good, they have variety and a lot of ethnic foods (I am not a fan) but I can't complain, the chefs will adjust to your dietary needs.

Small classes, undergrad research, critical thinking skills, rigorous curriculum, and a top notch music conservatory defined my experience here. I can't recommend Lawrence enough!

As parents, we came to Lawrence as often as possible to see performances and plays that our son wasn't even involved with. We still drive 1 1/2 hours to visit on occasion. Superior college experience and education.

Such a fantastic school! I loved my time there. The professors are fabulous in the classroom, advising in their offices, and they'll even spend some quality time getting to know you in social settings. The cafeteria is great. The students are all interesting and fun people. I highly recommend this school and hope my sister will attend soon!

The education I got from Lawrence University was stellar and I am confident that it will bring me many places in life. As a student at Lawrence, there were ample opportunities; I felt like I could be who I wanted and Lawrence would support me in my endeavors. As a student at ole Larry U, I was able to work, tutor, volunteer, intern, and research, which is incredible compared to the educations of many peers who attended top ten universities like UW-Madison or UIUC.

The class sizes are small. Tutorials and independent studies are encouraged by the faculty. Professors really care about their students and it is not unusual for them to invite students over for dinner or happy hour. The party scene is pretty impressive for such a small school. The VR and College Ave. provide excellent options for nightlife. The Performing Arts Center is just down the block for Broadway shows to supplement the incredible performances that take place at Lawrence weekly from the Conservatory of Music.

I feel like Lawrence is a part of my family forever and I am happy to say that I will be a Lawrentian for life--even if people in Chicago ask, "Oh, is that in Kansas?" when I tell them where I went to school. Lawrence gave me essential tools in critical thinking and learning about what the right questions to ask are. For that, I am eternally grateful. If anyone is thinking of going to Lawrence, feel free to message me. I would love to talk your ear off about this incredible college that changes lives!

We have been incredibly impressed with the level of professionalism and opportunities to perform in beautiful LU spaces. The teachers have backgrounds in pedagogy and really "get" how to help students make progress.

I went to school here and now I'm a multi-trillionaire. I couldn't have achieved my current status without the care and guidance of the wonderful professors and staff at this college. Lawrence is a small college that can appear to be very homogenous to the outsider, but the student population includes a very diverse offering of different types of white people with a few ethnics thrown into the mix. Honestly though, there's a place for everyone here and no one is an outcast unless they want to be. Appleton isn't the big city, but it's not awful either, it's a perfectly charming little town to spend four years.

The tiny student-population ensures that opportunities are more accessible to students. For example, parts in plays--a much larger percentage of our students have opportunities to participate in productions. I had my own radio-show and I didn't have to compete for it. I was able to write for the college newspaper. These are things that were so easy for me and other Lawrentians to do because of our small size and easy-going attitude (not an excessive amount of red-tape), and they are things that I think a lot of the kids take for granted.

While I was there, a bit of discontent was stirred up in the student-body with the administration, but I didn't have as much of a problem with it, and I don't think the problems are going to get too much worse. I was completely satisfied with my experience at the school. Oh! And I miss the glorious Nipple of Knowledge.

Every student takes a unique path through college. I appreciate my Lawrence education more than I did as a student, the quality of the learning environment is much more apparent after graduation. Lawrence is very much a small learning community that provides many levels of support to its students. It is not the place for everyone, but I feel quite fortunate to have spent my four years in Appleton.
