Why: OpportunityI'm all about opportunity. Music provides so much of that: leadership, teamwork, confidence, creativity, mathematical organization, timing, performance, aural pattern recognition, to name just a few of the skills that participation in music offers. Private lessons are an opportunity to have a professional musician focused on you what you need, what you can already do, what you want, and what questions you have.
What: Music
Students work with me on band music, solo repertoire, auditions, skill drills, and just plain fundamentals. I'm a band teacher, a community musician, and a former student myself; so I relate both to students who are learning, and to the conductors who hand them the music.
Who: You!
I teach elementary school band and orchestra now, and have taught middle and high school before. I volunteer with kindegarten through adults, too, so I get to know all sorts of people! Ultimately, we're all learners; we all get a little nervous, and we all get excited about our accomplishments. I work with folks who needed a little extra help, who were asking for something beyond band music, who only get to play after the work day is done. It's all up to you.
My students see me individually, but I'm also willing to do group lessons. If you would like to share your time with a buddy from band, let me know! We'll make it happen.
Where: Location
I teach in my home in southern Columbia, convenient to 29, 32, and 95.
When: To be determined
It's up to you. I do have other students already. Most students see me weekly, but we can also meet twice a week or once every two weeks. Lessons can be more frequent in the weeks before an audition, or less often around a school holiday. Have your calendar ready when you call, so we can set up a time; let me know when conflicts are coming up.
How: Rates
The first lesson, regardless of length or location, is on me. It's a time for you and me to meet, to learn your goals in taking lessons, and to set a path for meeting them.
Individual lessons are $25 for 30 minutes; $35 for 45 minutes; and $45 for 60 minutes. Group lessons can be negotiated based on the number of students.
There are a number of ways to make payments, allowing you to choose what best fits. Many parents pay weekly by check; others prefer monthly. Cash and credit are also accepted. Paypal is another option.

Elyse A. Evans Kircher
I've taught privately on and off since 2001: beginners, intermediates, advanced; kids learning their first three notes and teenagers learning their All State audition music. In high school, I assisted the band director and was a student conductor for one of the school ensembles. In college, I took on leadership positions as the clarinet section leader; as a sister of Tau Beta Sigma, the National Band Sorority; and as the instrument manager for the musical ensembles. I taught for two years in Anne Arundel County and now teach the bands and orchestras at Dundalk Middle School. Privately, I work with kids in grades five through nine right now, with a heavy concentration in middle school. Along the way, I've worked summer camps, All County and All State auditions and sectionals, and attended Honors ensemble concerts. I know what my kids are going for, and I have a large bag of tricks to get them there.
