As a school orchestra director, I often wished the private teachers teaching my orchestra students would use the method book I was using with the students and would help them with their orchestra music. Most would not.
I offer a different approach than other private string teachers. I will work collaboratively with the school teacher. I will be happy to help the students using the very materials and method books they are required to use at school. I will help them master their lessons and their orchestra music. At the same time, we will be working on the skills that will help the students to become fine musicians.
I offer a comprehensive 45 minute lesson. In addition to the normal requisites of lesson book study and orchestra music preparation, much attention will be given to producing a beautiful tone, music theory and learning to tune and care for one's instrument.

I am an Illinois certified music teacher and continue to teach orchestra in the River Forest public schools as I have for the last 38 years. My orchestras have consistently scored Superior ratings at competitions throughout the years. Many of my former students are now professional musicians in several orchestras and some have become successful orchestra teachers.
I have my Bachelor and Master's degree (with Honors) in Music Education from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in Chicago. I have also taken an additional 40 hours of post-graduate classes at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago and the University of Tennessee among others.
I studied violin with Charles Schell, Robert Gillespie and Michael Allen . I studied viola with Harold Kupper. I studied cello with Albert Van De Velde and Karl Fruh. And, I studied string bass extensively with Harold Siegal, Radi Lah, formerly of the Chicago Symphony and Stephen Lester, currently with the Chicago Symphony.
I have performed with the Chicago Civic Symphony, the Skokie Valley Symphony, the Wheaton Symphony and the Chicago Businessmen's Symphony.
