Welcome to Upbeat Music School, the largest music school in the Chinatown/South Loop area of Chicago offering private lessons on piano, guitar, bass, violin, voice, and drums. More students take music lessons here than at any other school in the area. Read below to find out why we are the number one choice for music lessons and all the benefits of becoming a student.
Upbeat Music Registration: all lesson times are offered on a first come, first served basis. Monthly auto-payments made through either Visa/Mastercard or electronic check are the two payment options we offer. There is a $30 registration fee added to your first payment and if you choose to pay with electronic check we will give you a $25 voucher which can be used to pay for books, accessories, and instruments at our school. Once registered, you will never have to register again as long as you keep your lesson time.
Our piano teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons.
Our guitar teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song.
Our voice teachers focus on both classical and popular music. If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, or learn to sing arias, join musical theater, or prepare for an audition, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons here for about a year now and she absolutely loves it. Everyone we've had contact with has been really professional and welcoming. This was our first time taking any kind of lessons and we asked a lot of questions, which they answered kindly. My daughter loves her teacher Danielle- especially since quarantine/lockdown started.
She's so friendly and informative and most of all super patient. It was weird at first to do virtual lessons but my daughter grew to love them. Danielle takes her time to explain the lesson and hold tight during technical difficulties. Would highly recommend the studio.

I was skeptical about taking guitar lessons. In the past a lot of instructors could play but weren't teachers. The teachers at Upbeat Music are very professional. They have music degrees and are committed to teaching. My guitar teacher Sam Mosching is competent and caring. This has been a great experience for me. My progress is much more than I expected. An added plus is the willingness to order special music or notation books. I highly recommend Upbeat Music for adults or younger people.

Upbeat is a ABRSM exam venue and my son took the violin exam there. I have experienced a wonderful support from the owner and the staff of the school since we drove from Michigan. They were always quick response and provided convenience to students as as much as possible. I will choose Upbeat next year for the higher level exam of ABRSM.

This place is very good at customer service. They are clear in what they offer, they call and deliver what they promise; they understand the difference between international and local music language stuff really good. I have dealt with them since 2003 or so and would recommend them to anyone. Scott and Ms. Chin both are children and people loving sweet couple.

My 5 year old son took piano lesson for about 2 years from 2012 to 2014 at Upbeat Music. His teacher was Justin Deangelo. I had my son in other school before we enroll him at Upbeat and he now is continuing his piano in a music school in DC metro. Compared to all the other schools, I found Upbeat Music is the best place for music lesson. 1) They care your expectation.
They have you fill out details such as; the reasons of enrolling your kids to a music lesson, and where you want to see your kid standing with the music skill. I have found Upbeat has used your expectation as guidelines in teaching music to kids. 2) They have qualified/professional teacher who sincerely utilized full lesson time for teaching. Justin was very good in assigning work based on ability of student and writing notes down in note book for the records.
He carefully regularly went over theory, lesson and performance of Nancy and Randall Faber and also Bastin's Scale, Chords and Arpeggios book. 3) The fee was very reasonable for the quality they offer. I highly ecommend this place for music lesson for your kids.

I have good time studying piano here. The teacher is very patience and skillful. The working staff at the desk are very helpful and always greet students when they come in. They also provide information about different musical exams and student recitals for stage performance practice. It helped me to build up confidence from the performance.

Upbeat Music is the only "REAL" music school in the Chicago Chinatown vicinity. The reception or sitting area is small but quite comfortable. While waiting for your child, you can enjoy a video taping of the latest piano concert. Pok Ling is the owner/piano teacher. She takes her music very seriously. Ms Johnson wants her students to see the joy that music can bring to their lives.
She truly enjoys teaching and her patience is amazing. Her slots fills up very quickly. Her students stays with her once they start with her. Her genuine concern for her students is a true asset! Check it out yourself!
