Violin and Viola lessons in the Sacramento area. Every student has unique and individual needs. I incorporate a wide variety of well-known teaching methods (such as Suzuki), as well as using teaching cues and intuition that I have developed from my own experiential progress in violin and viola. Put simply, my ability to closely watch a student and customize their learning experience is what makes me one of the top violin teachers in Sacramento.

Whether you are you a brand-new beginner who doesn't even know which questions to ask, or an advanced player looking to refine their technique, you have come to the right place! Please feel free to scroll down or visit some of the other pages for more info about me and what makes my teaching style unique and effective.
The entire monthly tuition is required to be paid ahead of time on the first lesson of each month. When you pay the monthly tuition, your specific time-slot is reserved for that month. No one else can take this time-slot from you, even if you don't show up. However, if you do not show up to your lesson at the specified time, you will not receive a refund, and you will not receive a "makeup lesson."
As a former professional musician/performance major I am in a unique position to review Erik. The short: Erik is fun, funny, efficient, knowledgeable, has a beard and long hair. You will progress as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort but he will teach you something nearly all of my teachers/professors/instructors have failed to do: how to practice.

Erik Williams
Hello! My name is Erik Williams and I have been teaching and performing violin/viola for over 16 years now (about 6 of those years I have been teaching professionally). I've logged thousands of hours of teaching time since I founded Sacramento Strings Violin Lessons, and I'm proud to say that I'm one of the best instructors in Sacramento! I accept students of all ages and my first lesson is always free of charge. The way I see it, initial music lessons usually end out being more of a consultation than anything else, and there's no way to know if a teacher is the right match for your learning style until you've had that first contact. So, I won't accept payment until you've decided I'm right for you. Thanks!

My daughter loves taking lessons with Erik. Although we only intended to go for 2-3 months to brush up on skills, we are on 8 months now with no intentions of cutting back. The improvements she has made and enjoyment she receives from his instruction is worth the 30 minute drive it takes us to get to his studio in Roseville.

My son has been taking violin lessons from Erik for seven months now, and we are so impressed with his teaching. He is knowledgeable, patient, and an excellent communicator. He is serious about what needs to be learned, and he has a fun sense of humor to go along with it ~ great qualities in any teacher! We appreciate his flexibility when we had to change times when the school year began. Fees are reasonable. And, wait until you hear him play.he's amazing!

I have been working with Erik for the last 2 months. He is a wonderful Violin teacher. He is very patient and has a natural feeling for teaching violin. I am a teacher myself and I would recommend him to any of my students and friends. He gives you time to think things through and to make sure you feel comfortable with each note. Erik looks at my way of learning and tailors my lessons to my style. He is an excellent violin teacher.

If you are looking to refine your skills, or begin playing your first violin, Erik is definitely the teacher for you. Whatever your experience level, Erik will help you further your skills and talent to higher levels. I bought my first violin summer of 2015 and had no one or any source to help me get started and playing properly; you could imagine that self teaching is nearly an impossibility, especially as an adult learning to play.
I originally found Erik to help me with my stubborn collapsing bridge lol, but then he also gave me an intro lesson that helped me understand the very basic dynamic of bowing, something that the book I had purchased was not helping me with and it had little to no details and corrections compared to what he was giving me, all in 30 minutes to get me started and familiar with my instrument to begin practicing.
Since then, I have been going Erik for lessons to help me become a better violinist. Erik is patient and will help you at a pace that is suitable for you. Even if you were to become static momentarily, he will help you get past barriers to confidently move forward and continuing refining your skill. He is also flexible with time and can accommodate for most schedules.
I have a pretty busy schedule with work, school, and everything in between; I'm at home able to practice at night most days. I'm able to fit 30 minutes in one day to see Erik and receive notes on what I can work on in the nights. Erik is your go-to! He is an excellent teacher with much experience under is belt and a good friend. He won't ever make you feel like playing and learning is a chore. What ever challenges you both may face, you will always conquer them and every day, you will always be better.

I began taking violin lessons with Erik in December 2016 after about 15 year hiatus of actively playing. I started when I was younger but never had the privilege of having a private instructor back then. If I could've, I would've wished it was him! He is amazingly talented, knowledgeable, professional, attentive and intuitive as well. I make the same mistakes repeatedly but he has yet to run out of patience with me.
He definitely tailors his lessons to the needs and abilities of the student and doesn't put more on them than they can handle. He is a great teacher that loves what he does and that goes out of his way for his students. I don't believe I could've found a better teacher!

Eric is the best! I was on the verge of quitting violin after investing 5 years into it because I just couldn't find a teacher to show me how to improve my tone and vibrato. I'm an adult who plays in a small band and my years of effort were being dashed to the ground until I met Erik! His techniques are priceless - - they are helping me correct a bunch of bad habits I've acquired - - and the quality of my playing has improved a lot in just a short time! Erik's the real deal!

This place is great. I was initially nervous about being an adult with no music experience, but Erik was very welcoming and made me feel comfortable. I've been going for about a month now and have already learned multiple songs and have been learning how to read music. Learning how to play violin has been a great experience for me. I would recommend coming here for lessons, to anyone.

Erik is a great teacher. I only started playing viola a few months ago and with an unpredictable work schedule, I was happy to find someone who was available on Sunday. Erik has an easygoing and encouraging approach to teaching. He focuses on both technical skills and musicality, even at the beginner level, and can explain difficult concepts in a clear way.
I leave each lesson feeling both challenged and motivated, with a good idea of what to work on for the week. It has been a pleasure working with Erik and I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Erik has been teaching my daughter violin lesson for almost two years now and she has progressed tremendously. He is very knowledgeable of violin techniques and very patient in getting his point across. I like that he tries different ways to tackle a piece especially if my daughter is having a hard time getting the right rhythm and tune. He is also very flexible schedule wise and willing to accommodate you even on short notice. He's a wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone.
