First Chair Fiddlers was founded in 2002, and provides lessons for many styles and disciplines: Suzuki, classical, blues, Celtic or Old-Timey fiddle, country and rock.
We provide instruction for the following instruments and interests:
songwriting, music theory, violin, viola, voice, and beginner guitar, piano, and mandolin.
Our students range from absolute beginners (adults and children) to competitors at national festivals and professional musicians! Rachel also has experience teaching students with many different learning styles and goals, including students with extreme shyness (selective mutism), PTSD, ADHD, Autism, and physical limitations.
Our lessons are hosted both online and in Rachel's in-home studio in Hampton, and we host several performance opportunities a year. For online students, Rachel works with and coaches each client to create performance opportunities for their individual needs in their own local area.

Report
Once you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I’ve taught hundreds of students over almost 20 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I’ve been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol’ stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them… It’s what I love about what I do.

Rachel Gaither Vaughan
Owner, Instructor
Rachel Vaughan currently serves as a lead singer and fiddler for the Kansas City-based Celtic group, Tullamore, with whom she has been a member since 2004. She has had the pleasure of performing in many genres--including country, rock, Christian, and classical--as well as many different venues, including Carnegie Hall and tours of the East Coast, Ireland and Scotland.
Music education for Rachel began in 1990 with the violin, and guitar in 1996, when she also began writing her own songs. While receiving her performance degree in violin at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she also studied piano, voice, and vocal pedagogy.
Rachel began teaching in 2002, and has continued to expand her teaching style and studio, focusing on each student and customizing lessons to meet each pupil's individual goals and needs. She has taught students with many different learning styles and challenges, including students with ADHD, PTSD, extreme shyness (selective mutism), and physical limitations (stroke and surgery recovery, as well as hand/finger limitation). She says about teaching, "I love getting to know my students and what they want for themselves, but the best part is watching them achieve it."
