Viola Lessons
Report
City Strings & Piano was founded by viola players and we are committed to great viola lessons. Violin and viola are very similar, but there are unique differences that can only be taught by players with experience on the instrument. Whether your child is a beginning or advanced viola player, we will match you with an experienced viola teacher and performer.
Viola lessons in your home are not only convenient for you, but also provide a comfortable environment for your child's lessons. Our teachers get to know the family and practice environment, both of which can be helpful for success. They are also friendly and relaxed in lessons, which helps make viola fun!

We had a fantastic experience with Cincinnati Strings and William instructing our young daughters! Our girls now have a great foundation with reading music, playing piano, and performing in front of others. William is very knowledgeable and passionate about playing piano, and he tailored his teaching style to excite and challenge both of our daughters without causing frustration.
We also participated in several recitals with other Cincinnati Strings students, and found these events to be fun, supportive, and very well organized. I would fully recommend CS for students of all ages and skill levels!

We have been very happy with Cincinnati Strings, the teachers are not only great musicians, but experienced teachers who can teach across different age groups and skill levels. They do a very good job matching teachers to students and it is really convenient having the lessons at home. Our teacher has been very flexible and communicative and it has been a great experience. Their pricing is pretty comparable to others so I have no hesitation recommending them for anyone looking to start taking music lessons in the area.

We have had a fantastic experience with the teachers at Cincinnati Strings, most recently with William (piano). He was a great teacher for our teen, very encouraging while still having high expectations about her progress. After taking lessons elsewhere for several years without much progress, she can now read music and enjoys playing.

We have had a great experience with Cincinnati Strings. I was so surprised to find an affordable option AND the convenience of having classes in our home. They had lots of flexibility to work around our schedule and on days we were unable to meet up (illnesses and such) we were able to do our classes virtually. Dominic was a great teacher for our son. He was always incredibly patient and encouraging. I highly recommend Cincinnati Strings to anyone wanting to learn the violin.

We have had nothing but a wonderful experience with Cincinnati Strings. The teachers are fantastic, and to have the convenience of doing a lesson in your own home & having one less place to drive your kid to as a busy parent is definitely a positive quality of life decision. Both my husband and myself have had careers as professional classical musicians and we have been very pleased with the teachers as well as how the business is run.

Cincinnati Strings has been a great organization for our daughter's violin lessons. The aspect of the teacher coming to our house is a good break from driving her around to school and other activities. My daughter's teacher Kanako Shimasaki is wonderful. My daughter really enjoys her time and lessons with Kanako and her technical abilities and musicality have improved and are improving all the time. I can fully recommend Cincinnati Strings.

Jennifer gives viola lessons to one of my teenage daughters. My daughter really trusts and enjoys the lessons with Jennifer. My daughter has progressed quite a bit since the time the lessons started. And very importantly the lessons have helped my daughter improve her orchestra grade in school at Sycamore. My daughter now gets a solid A each term instead of.let's say a some what lower grade. : I have another daughter taking piano lessons from Bin. Bin has been the best instructor for my daughter.
My daughter was kind of stuck for a while and is now clearly progressing. And she is interested in doing well, learning to play music. Bin knows exactly how to manage my daughter from complimenting when it's right to do so, to being firm when that's needed. Either way my daughter looks forward to lessons from Bin.

My daughter began violin lessons as her 7th birthday gift. She has studied with her instructor for about 1.5 years now. We have been very happy with the quality of instruction. Communication with Cincinnati Strings is very easy and professional. We rent an instrument with them and that also has been smooth. It is extremely convenient to have the lesson in our home. We like the option to be in recitals. I took off one star because I find that quite a few "weeks off" are baked into the annual calendar.

I love this studio. 1) We have had an amazing experience with our piano teacher Bin Yu. Working with young children requires someone very special, and Bin is that person. Every lesson has a very fresh feeling and Bin understands how to respond positively while giving correction. I really feel very lucky to have such a patient, caring and GIFTED (let's not forget she is quite the accomplished pianist herself) passing on her love of music to a member of our family. Bin is like family to me. 2)As a working parent, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have a teacher come to my home.
We are all running back and forth between work, school, extra activities and honestly, even the kids just want to come home and relax after riding the bus home. How grateful I am to have the time we would be spending in traffic, etc. RUSHING to our lessons to instead, decompress and have a good, productive lesson. I really feel the caliber and quality of the teachers in the studio is worth it. We've had a piano sub and she was excellent as well. I promise if you try it, you will not be disappointed!

My son has been taking violin lessons with Cincinnati Strings for about 4 years. We started the journey with no background in music and right away felt comfortable with the whole process. It really is convenient to have in home lessons and we have found the teachers we've worked with to be receptive and genuine. It's been a real treat for us to watch our son develop as a violinist.
He has fallen in love with the process of practice and his dedication has helped him even beyond music. I would recommend Cincinnati Strings to anyone. Don't be intimidated to get your kids involved in music outside of what their school may offer, you'll truly miss out on a much truer experience. If you would have asked me four years ago if I thought my son would be playing violin at this level and attending art school with emphasis on instrumental music I would have looked at you with a blank confused stare.
But thanks to Cincinnati Strings and us taking a leap into the unknown we found a love for music we never knew existed. So give it a shot! Work with your child! You won't be sorry!

Our 15 year old daughter was interested in learning to play the violin, but she was hesitant, worried that she would be placed in a group class of beginning 8 year olds. and one 15 year old. A friend told me about Cincinnati Strings and our problem was solved. She got the one on one lesson that she desired, and I didn't have to try to get her to "one more after school" activity.
Her teacher, Melanie, is professional, prompt and always supportive and interested in the other activities that my daughter participates in. Daughter has made fantastic progress under Melanie's teaching and really enjoys playing the violin! Thanks, Cincinnati Strings!

We have two sons who have both taken lessons at home with Cincinnati Strings. Thomas, who is 10 years old, has been taking violin lessons, first with Dominic and now with Scott Jackson, for over three years now. Duncan was 16 years old when he started taking piano lessons with Jordan Neiman. The teachers have all gotten to know both boys as individuals and adjusted their teaching to best suit their learning styles while making the lessons fun.
Sometimes it can take several different approaches before a new passage or piece can be mastered. Scott and Dominic, with patience and perseverance, are able to push Thomas beyond what he thought he was capable of doing. Thomas in turn has not only been learning to play violin and develop a love of music, but along the way is himself learning about patience and perseverance. Having lived in different cities, we have worked with a variety of music teachers and we have been really pleased with Cincinnati Strings. The convenience of having the lessons at home with these fantastic teachers and the added option of their group class really is the best I could have hoped for.

I started learning cello a few months ago. As an adult, I needed a teacher who could be flexible and patient with my learning style. I'm not a middle school kid learning music for band. CS&P gave me a great teacher who comes to my house each week and who is flexible enough to accommodate schedule changes due to my job. But more importantly, my progress has been above my own expectations.
My teacher makes it fun to learn and practice daily injecting the right amount of music theory as we go along so I can play increasingly complex music. And since I enjoy learning technique and scales a lot, we focus more on that rather than learning simplified songs for my level. Ultimately this strategy will pay off and has already made me a better cellist student than I could have expected. I highly recommend the school in general and my teacher in particular.
