Sharon Abney began piano lessons at age nine, under the direction of Dr. Veronica Mimosa, a well respected concert virtuoso. During that time, Sharon placed in several regional and national competitions. Sharon attended University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelors degree and Minor in Music. With more than thirty years of teaching experience, she is also a well known local performer in the greater San Antonio and Austin area. Although classically trained, Sharon teaches all genres and styles of music as well as studies in improvisation, score arranging, composition and performance. She is capable of teaching beginners through intermediate advance.
Sharon believes that teaching music to others is one of the most important elements in the development of one’s own growth as a musician, artist, and performer. “I want to provide students with the tools to teach themselves new things every day.” She is committed to providing students with a firm understanding of music theory and music-reading from the beginning of their studies. “I want my students to have a deeper understanding of what’s going on in their favorite part of a piece.” She is also highly committed to helping students realize the healthiest technical skills that they can personally achieve, so that they can express their musical ideas with as much freedom and ease as possible.

Sharon is a great piano teacher. She makes sure the songs and assignments are challenging enough that you grow, but not so much that you get disappointed and frustrated with learning the piano. It almost surprises me how much I have learned from taking only 4 lessons with her. She makes learning the piano fun! If you are thinking about learning to play the piano, I would definitely recommend that you get in contact with Sharon.

Facility Instruction My daughter started piano lessons an North Central Piano Academy in November 2015. Her piano playing has improved quite dramatically in this short time. Ms. Abney has a quality, that she is very enthusiastic about teaching the students that is contagious. My daughter can not wait for the next class. To see the confidence and the smile on my daughters face speaks for itself. Ms. Abney is a very gifted artist that truly enjoys teaching music. The lessons are equally fun and challenging so the students really want to practice. We thoroughly enjoy every lesson and look forward to the next.

My 8 year old granddaughter has had such a good experience taking lessons this past year from Ms. Abney. She looks forward to going, and loves choosing and learning new songs, which makes her also enjoy practicing throughout the week! Ms. Abney adapts each lesson to the learning style of her students and teaches with kindness and enthusiasm. It has been such a joy to watch my granddaughter's progression and see her confidence grow as she masters each new skill.

Sharon has been our son's piano teacher since he was five. During the past 3 years, she has used several different teaching methods. She has used level appropriate books as well as electronic apps. Our son has not always been the most motivated student. At these moments, Sharon's patience, professionalism and experience have shown brightly. She has had to be encouraging, and firm at times.
Her own experiences as a student and professional has been integral to my son's education. She has also put on small recitals twice a year. These recitals are put on for elders of our community. Each student plays level appropriate songs. Recitals reinforce our son's desire to improve as well as giving back to our community. Our son can read music, play with and without a metronome.
Our son enjoys piano so much, he has played for his class at school two to four times a month. He has impressed his class mates as well as his teachers. Due to this, I have had several parents ask me about piano lessons. I give them Sharon's card every time. Anyone with knowledge and education can teach music. However, not everyone can inspire love for music and piano. Sharon does this. It is evident in all of her students not just my son. I will not take my son to anyone else. Best Regards,
