Matthew started studying music at an early age. His mother enrolled him in private piano lessons at age four. He continued piano lessons until he was fourteen years old. At age fifteen, he acquired his 1st guitar and started studying folk and rock music. Matthew spent hours singing and practicing his favorite songs by Bob Dylan, David Bowie, the Beatles, and other singers and groups he heard.

Report
Lessons are offered in a quiet and professional office setting with a comfortable waiting area for parents and students. Parents may choose to sit in on the lessons or listen from the nearby waiting area. Student recitals are held each May and Performance Classes are offered throughout the year. The classes are hosted by Matthew and offer players the option of performing regularly for a supportive audience of fellow students and their families/friends. Lessons are offered Monday-Saturday at flexible times to accomodate adults and homeschool students.

Matthew Smith introduced me not only to Guitar, but to all forms of musicality. He made learning guitar fun and rewarding, and if it weren’t for his teaching style and personality, I likely wouldn’t have pursued music. Over the past 13 years since learning from Matthew, I’ve went on to producing music for a living, writing, performing, and recording guitar for countless songs. I’ve learned other instruments simply by my thorough understanding of the guitar and music theory that he taught me, and the foundation for all my writing/playing is from the techniques and knowledge gained from him. If you have the opportunity to learn from him, I cannot stress enough that Matthew Smith will be a fantastic teacher. Highly recommended!

If I had Matthew when I took lessons as a kid/adolescent, I probably would have stuck with guitar and wouldn’t be an adult trying to learn again! I really enjoyed the 2 lessons I’ve had with him! He is so positive, patient and encouraging and he will meet you where you are/what you’re wanting to learn. I won’t go anywhere else for a lesson!

Matthew is a great guitar musician and a great teacher as well. He knows very well how to teach students based on their needs, talent, and pace. He is also very patient, encouraging, and inspiring. Without his excellent guidance, I wouldn't have made the progress that I've achieved so far to enjoy the beauty and serenity brought by music playing. I highly recommend him to all who are looking for a professional teacher to learn playing guitar!

One of the nicest guys around and very easy to comply with. Matt has a wide range of talents/tastes of music, & there hasn't been a personal request he was not able to help me with! I have learned more in the past couple months than I have the previous theee years before. No matter the stage of guitar playing, Matt is the man to go to for all ages/experiences.
