Apple Mountain Music is the premier provider of folk music instruments and instruction in the Southwest. It is also a great place to hang out, shop for the latest accessories and talk music. We carry a variety of Celtic harps for professionals as well as beginners. We also feature a wide range of instruments for playing folk, Celtic, ethnic and traditional music, including mountain dulcimers, hammered dulcimers, bodhrans, dobros, mandolins, banjos, bouzoukis, guitars, Irish whistles and flutes, harmonicas, ocarinas, autoharps, psalteries, ukuleles, fiddles, recorders and Native American flutes.
At Apple Mountain Music, we can recommend instructors for virtually all of the folk instruments we sell. Anne Eisfeller is the Principal Harpist of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Santa Fe Symphony, adjunct faculty at the University of New Mexico, and a harp specialist for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony.
Why has the harp survived for thousands of years? There is something enchanting about the sound of a harp that seems to penetrate into the human soul. Every single time we take the harps out to an event we hear someone say, "I've always wanted to play the harp" or see a tear of emotion coming from the eye of a listener as the strings are set into delicate motion.
The mountain or Appalachian dulcimer, is a fretted folk zither that is semi-indigenous to the Appalachia and Ohio River Valley areas of the United States. Evolved from older European instruments (especially, it seems, the German scheitholt), the dulcimer's defining characteristic is its diatonic fretboard.

This is an amazing little music store. To be blunt, it's the best music store that I have been in. Why? Incredible selection of folk instruments, right there in the store. When I lived in Albuquerque, I starting learning mountain dulcimer because of this store, and the sense of musical community Debra, the owner, supported. There were a good variety of classes such as penny whistle, Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulicmer, and the singing classes for adults.
It was great to have a local music store that recognized there were adults who would also like lessons in something other than piano & guitar. I noticed on the website that Apple Mountain is now only open on Fridays & Saturdays. Still a great store to visit.
