Five years ago I purchased a Dieter Hoff classical guitar from Tony Acosta at Luthier. During my purchase process I was treated with respect and patience. I was free to play various guitars for as long as I wished. I eventually narrowed my choice down to two. I decided to take a break and return another day to make a decision. Rather than pressure me into a purchase, Tony agreed with my decision to return with a fresh ear.

I did just that and am very happy with my choice. More recently I had a guitar crisis in that I knocked my guitar stand over with my guitar on it. The guitar cracked at the heel and along both sides of the body. I called Tony in a panic. He reassured me that he would be able to repair it. I brought it into his store and a month later, as promised, he returned it to me, sounding every bit as beautiful as it did before the accident. Cosmetically the cracks on the body are not visible at all and the one on the heel is barely so. Bottom Line: I highly recommend this shop for professional, honest and friendly service, as well as for its selection of high end classical and flamenco guitars.

What an oasis - classical guitar specialist with a great vibe and service. I am going tomorrow to get a student level guitar. It is hard to find reasonable beginner to intermediate guitars that aren't from Indonesia or Korea or China. I found one here and it was easy as D Major in first position. This place has nice selection - Spanish and otherwise authentic - at reasonable price. Earlier in the day I'd been to Guitar Center to compare, and there is no comparison.

For classical, this is the place. Private rooms make for easy testing - no noisy amateurs. The guy playing the 17K guitar in the other room was a prodigy and I would have paid admission - this is where the pros go.

I brought my daughter with me to buy her a guitar and after trying couple of guitars, she fell in love with a Estevez Spanish guitar, she described her experience with the instrument as " Amor a Primera Vista ". She said Tony was the most helpful person ever. What can I say, I'm Already thinking of my next guitar.!

Beautiful professional shop! I brought a sadly damaged Ramirez Classical Guitar for repairs and proper adjustment. The owner did a fantastic job. His prices are very fair for the beautiful first class work he does and did not over-charge me like so many shops do in the city. He was also very nice and invited me in to an incredible guitar room with some very fine instruments alone to make sure I was happy with the work he did.

By the way I had purchased this guitar at a very good price on eBay because it was a Blemished model but had no idea that the neck was so warped and difficult to play. I was planning on returning it but then decided to take the guitar to someone good to see if it was worth repairing. He made it very playable again and the blemish is now hardly even noticeable.

Thanks to Tony my guitar looks beautiful and plays the way it's supposed to. I will never buy a guitar on eBay again. Almost forgot to mention that if you're looking for a fine Classical Guitar, this is the place to go to in New York. I can see why he's so busy. This is the only place that I'd bring a Classical or Acoustic instrument to period. Hope this helps anyone out there.

I was looking to upgrade my classical guitar and wanted to spend around $1500.00, after shopping around the city and not finding exactly what I wanted, a friend recommended to go to Luthier Music and I was very pleased with the selection of classical guitars they have. I bought a beautiful J. Hernandez guitar and I was very pleased with the attention I received.

I have been going to Luthier Music for as many years as they have been in existence. I bought my last two concert guitars there and constantly send my students and interested guitarists to shop there. There is no other place like it here in New York City or the surrounding area. This is a shop dedicated to fine quality classical and flamenco guitars and strings along with related products for the discriminating instrumentalist.

The proprietor is a true soft spoken gentleman with a keen sense of what a guitarist needs in terms of an instrument and the time it takes to play and make a selection. He also has a loyal following and is quite generous towards them. As this will be published under a web name I will state that I am Anthony Bez. I am a Board Member of the New York City Classical Guitar Society so I can also say that Antonio Acosta is a consistent supporter of our work and of the Classical Guitar world in general. I do not hesitate to suggest that you visit this shop for any of your Classical or Flamenco Guitar needs.

I walked out of this store physically angry at the way we were treated. I went with my husband to check out their selection, and was initially excited. However, we never even got to try a guitar. The lady was incredibly judgmental. She audibly scoffed at the things I said, argued with me about guitar terminology during a conversation she wasn't even a part of, and claimed I had no knowledge about instruments.

She was nasty when my husband asked to try a guitar, and never did let him, even though he said he was seriously considering the instrument. I can't speak about the other workers, but it was clear that this woman thought she was better than us. For another example of this, see the response the company made to another negative review. A little bit of kindness and humility goes a long way.

You pushed paying customers out of the store with your premature judgments. I'm going to share this experience with all my fellow music university graduates so that they can take their business to a place where they can have a better experience.

My first visit to the store. I ended up purchasing a magnificent John Price guitar. Tony Acosta was the quintessential gentleman: personable, helpful without being pushy, very knowledgable, patient and gracious, with integrity and pride in his business and work. He is old school in the best of ways, and desired to help me find the best instrument for myself. Did not push or try to persuade.

What a pleasant experience in his store. He shipped me the guitar very promptly and kindly included some cds, and a music book at no cost. He had a wonderful selection of instruments and music, cd's and books, and all the accessories a guitarist would need. Very highly recommended. Will definitely purchase my next guitar from him!
