Groth Music went above and beyond to accommodate my online order. I ordered a Boatswains Pipe for a Naval Retirement Ceremony, and put a note in that I needed it by Monday, if possible. Phillip called me the next morning to let me know the packaging was a little beat up, and see if that was ok before shipping. When we talked, I also asked him to take a photo of the pipe so I could see if it might need to be soldered before use, and he hooked me up.
It's in the mail, and I just want you to know that the service you will receive is superb, and I am certain they stand behind the products they sell as well. I would 100% pay an extra few dollars every time to support a business like this. Thank you!

Groth Music is hands down the best music store in the Twin Cities area. From instruments and accessories to sheet music and repairs, if they don't have it they'll find it for you, and at a great price too! As a music educator and performing musician I've been very fortunate to work with Bill Golden for many years. Bill is fantastic! He always goes above and beyond to help me find anything I need for my students and myself, and he gets it to me fast and at a great price! The employees at Groth Music are all knowledgeable musicians and they clearly enjoy sharing their expertise to help out their fellow musicians.

I have worked with Groth Music as a teacher, and a musician and as a parent. This is a company that is truly brick and mortar. They have products that are available to you in person and a qualified staff that legitimately answers questions with experience. I try to keep my business here because they represent the local music dealer that has the struggle to remain relevany while so many things have gone online.
I still appreciate testing instruments, talking with repair professionals and browsing music physically. Thank you Groth for continuing to be the long-standing local business that has stood the test of time amongst many other music stores that could not weather all of the changes we have seen over the past ten years.

Groth Music is a wonderful store and Jordan is absolutely the best. Today he ran out to our school (25 miles from the store) twice to bring us what we need so our students can keep playing. And this fall he secured us a case of lyres on game day that we forgot to order in advance. He rocks and Groth Music rocks!

Place is nicely set up and cozy but the staff in the Cello/Violin section had an attitude towards me since I've never played before and after that I wasn't interested anymore and left because I didn't feel welcome. Other than that it's a pretty nice music store overall. Would recommend for professionals only since staff seems to have issues with people interested in music who've never played before.

Rented my daughter's first instrument through Groth Music this year. The process has been affordable, painless, clear expectations and communication. Jordan has been lightening fast in response time and made sure that we were set for learning and a great experience with her first concert. I recommend any hesitant folk to try them out and trust in their expertise and friendly and fast customer service!

We rented an instrument for my son. Really smooth process, it was ready within a couple days. Easy to understand payment program. The instrument was damaged (by my son) they came to get it, fix it, gave us a loner in the meantime. Super easy! Bill at Groth was great to work with.really super customer service.

Terrific 70 year old giant music store. The have anything you might need or want. Great repair shop. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Went there to repair a granddaughter's rental clarinet withe a loose set screw on a key spring. In and out of repair in a minute. Many instruments to try out. Giant store. Huge inventory.

I am a band teacher of 15 years and I work exclusively with Groth Music for instruments, repairs, and sheet music. During COVID, Groth was still there providing everything I needed as a band teacher. My rep Bill Golden has provided the best musical support I could ask for. He is fast, friendly, and most importantly reliable! I will work with Bill Golden for the rest of my career because he is the best resources in the business for all things music! Thank you Bill and Groth Music for all you have done to help me be the best Band director possible.

I've never felt so comfortable walking into a new (for me--Groth is a family owned business that's been around for 80 years!) guitar shop in my entire life. Felix is an absolute gem of a human being, and a wellspring of guitar knowledge. It's immediately evident how much he loves his work and the people he interacts with. As I noodled around on a couple guitars, he proudly brought me one of his favorite instruments in the shop, simply so I could have the joy of playing it.
He understood that I was in the shop simply to check things out, but that only seemed to deepen his enthusiasm for connecting with me as a customer. Aha, I thought. This is why they've been around for 80 years. I spent four hours getting lost in a wash of shimmering reverb that completely transcended all presence of time and space, and could write five times more than I am about my wonderful experience with this shop, but I will leave the rest for you to discover on your own. I can say with confidence that if you decide to stroll into Groth Music one lazy afternoon like I did, you will be very happy you did. Thanks again, Felix!

I searched all over for a recently discontinued Martin D16-GT and Groth Music had one of the last remaining ones. Felix went above and beyond in assisting me. He took pictures and sent them to me after examining the guitar, and told me it was in perfect condition. I made the purchase and Felix made sure it shipped out that day to Florida. It arrived and is in perfect condition as promised. Felix provided great customer service! I will not hesitate in buying from Groth in the future!

Don't pass up an opportunity to go here! It's awesome! They have a ton of different instruments and lots of space so you don't constantly feel like you're going to trip or break something. Great guitar, ukulele, and drum selection, among other instruments. They have a huge music section here where you can get sheet music and such. There's even music-related decorations and trinkets you can get.

Since I wrote my initial review Al, the manager at Groth, contacted me and provided some context for the issues that I have experienced. He also came through with a refund check for what I was overcharged on the rental. Although my experience was less than stellar Groth Music did own the mistake and fixed it. I appreciate that. For that reason I have raised my rating. Based on the rest of the reviews my experience seems to be an outlier so maybe give them a chance.

Long story short, I bought an old stock, but new Getzen 3052S Bb Trumpet from Groth Music via the internet/over-the-phone. The sales person insured me that this instrument was brand new and had no flaws. When I received the trumpet 10 days later, I noticed that the bracing on the trumpet bell was slightly indented into the bell itself. It was hard to tell because of the silver plating reflection. Nonetheless, I shipped this trumpet to Kanstul in a Torpedo Bag (indestructible case by-the-way) to get gold plated, and Kanstul confirmed my suspicions.
They had to repair the dent before they could gold plate the trumpet. I sent an email to Groth about this issue, and I never heard back from them. This transaction was the first and last time that I will do business with this company.

I used to come here all the time as a kid when I played piano and it was always a HUGE treat. Today I came back looking for a specific guitar case and the staff was incredibly helpful- when they didn't have what I was looking for in stock the guy working with me even recommended a store nearby that may have one! Amazing service. Plus an impromptu jam session is the guitar section always makes for a fun trip!

We were helped by many wonderful people at Groth. We came in with my son's used trombone I wanted to get checked out. The first guy opened it up thought it looked pretty good said "you've got yourself a fine of horn here but let's have the repair people look at it." Sue from the repair shop took a look at it and said it was in fine shape.
She recommended some lubricant for it which the first guy helped us find. The guy in the music area was able to find us the instructional booklet my son's school required. We looked at the $3000 trombones and Laughed with glee at my $150 trombone and the $20 I spent at Groth to get my son started in band. Thanks Groth!

I went in to ask for a stomp box. The first salesperson honestly and kindly said he didn't know anything about them, and turned me over to another guy, who stared at us blankly. We explained what we were looking for, and he sort of laughed and said "That's not actually what those are called! It's an easy mistake to make, but that's not what those are called.
What *you're* looking for is called a Horsekick." He proceeded to hand me a box that literally said, "Horsekick: Digital Stompbox" The dictionary definition of stompbox is: a percussion instrument consisting of a small wooden box on which the player steps rhythmically. Like, dude. It's fine with me if you don't know the answer to a question.
But if you're gonna be condescending, you should probably be right. He then had the good taste to ask that if we come back in, we'd ask for him so he could have the commission. Nope. Not after laughing at me because you incorrectly thought I was wrong. Take a seat.

Ohhhhh, I'm smitten! I was out to find a beginner's piano instruction book (I'm preparing myself for a 1-year-goal that begins next week on my 36th Birthday to practice the piano everyday for 36 minutes! (at least)) and went on Yelp to see the closest locations to me. It was between Guitar Center, Schmitt Music, and Groth Music. Since I'm drawn to independently owned stores AND because I hadn't heard of Groth, this was any easy decision. Having grown up playing the cello during most of my childhood and into a bit of my childhood, as well as having picked up the guitar in high school & college, it only took a few steps before I was endeared to this store.
The appearance on the outside from the parking lot gives off the 70s/80's strip mall look, but the inside is filled with treasures untold (translation: the store contents COMPLETELY redeem the appearance of this store from the inside-out)! I'm not purposefully being dramatic here (but yes, PURPOSEFULLY punny) when I write that I felt a chord struck within.
If no one else had been in the store, I honestly think I would have cried. I was feeling the sparks and regrets of having so much music buried underneath me for so long. Even though I came for piano music, I looked to my left and saw that they had a stringed instrument room. Not only were there violins and violas, but there were multiple cellos & bass.and even harps in this smaller side room. Having played the cello, I generally had to go to specialty stores (like House of Note in St. Louis Park) that were very small and somewhat limited in selection.
But here. HERE I was impressed with their variety of instruments. While looking longingly at the selection of cellos, I even heard someone pull out and play the hammer dulcimer(!). In another room, someone pulled down a guitar and started playing songs. When I walked throughout the rest of the store, aisles and aisles of familiar, vaguely familiar, and very foreign instruments unfolded before me.
I kept thinking 'I HAVE to come back! I HAVE TO COME BACK!' To listen to music is one thing.to PLAY music is powerful! When I finally forced myself to start looking for a beginner's piano book, I found a large room full of music books, instructional cds, and sheet music. The variety is great and if I had allowed myself, I could have spent all day here reveling in old songs I once knew as well as knew songs I must know.
There is a handful of employees spread throughout the store and appear approachable. I didn't seek out any help and wasn't offered any, but it didn't detract from my overall experience. My experience was beautiful and I will be back again!

I know this is probably a great place to buy band instruments. This much I'm not disputing. I also LOVE to support local businesses, especially ones that have been around as long as Groth has. All that being said, I will never go there to look at guitar strings or accessories again. They do have a few sales people that strictly do guitars, but I can only assume that they all work on commission.
I went there twice to look at strings and once to look at a capo and every time I was there the sales staff were helpful. Until somebody else walked in and picked up a $2k fender strat or a $3k Gibson LP and suddenly my string or capo purchase goes on the back-burner while they leave me to "help" the other customer. I have yet to actually purchase something from them because literally every time I try to I get bumped by somebody making a bigger purchase.

We went here because my six year old's violin instructor recommended it. Our purpose was to rent a violin, something I know nothing about. They were very helpful in determining what size she needed and they promptly filled out the paperwork and got us on our way. Perhaps they just wanted my two small children out of their store before something got broken but I prefer to believe that they are just super helpful. They're reasonably priced, too. $40 for the first four months and then $23 per month after that.

Groth offers a comprehensive collection of sheet music, from solo piano to full scores for the high school band. They also have a wide selection of instruments suitable for the beginner or professional. The percussion selection is notably wide-ranging. Top quality instrument repair services are also available. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Groth is a great resource for any musician.

A very nice music store selling instruments of many kinds, sheet music, recorded music (not that much.), and instruction. From violins to clarinets, trumpets to drum sets. they have lots. Over the years, I've purchased two guitars, an amp, and myriad guitar accessories at Groth and each one is still serving me well. I'm not sure if Felix is still working there, but he was a huge help when I was making my purchases. Wish I had a Groth in Chicago!
