After graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Jim Jones returned home to Baltimore, looked around at the music lesson offerings and thought, "There's something missing." Highly-qualified teachers who provide an effective, supportive learning environment and who also continue to perform professionally.

According to Suzanne Hanser, Chair of the Music Therapy department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Music-making is linked to a number of health benefits for older adults. Research shows that making music can lower blood pressure, decrease heart rate, reduce stress, and lessen anxiety and depression.
Our rock band program is an exciting and unique program available exclusively to The Music Workshop students! Typical age groups are: 9-11, 12-14, 15-17; grouping is approximate because we have students at different skill levels that don't always match up with their ages. Diversified bands: Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Indie, Modern, Pop, Original, if styles overlap, then it's a lesson in compromise.
Our recording studio is a fully functional, 24 input, 24-bit facility. It is designed to "plug in and play". This means all inputs to the mixing board are wired into the computer, which has a template with plug-in effects such as reverbs, compressor/limiters, and EQ's already set for mix-down. It means when you come to our studio to record, you plug your instrument in, the engineer hits the record button, you start singing and playing, and when you listen back, it sounds great.Less time spent on set up, more time spent on creating music!

So honored that my son attends this school for both his bass and band lessons. Extremely experienced teachers who not only teach music but teach kids to appreciate music of all genres. They have a rock band program that my son has been in for four years. They play gigs at the Hard Rock Cafe, Zen West and the 8x10 just to name a few. They get experience in teamwork, writing, and performing.
For his individualized Bass lessons? The instructors let him have fun with rock music but insist he learn jazz and blues as well. They understand that a solid music foundation is what makes musicians great. My son is taught to not only play Rush and AC/DC but also BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan as well. Can't impress upon you more how great this school is.

The people at Music Workshop are amazing. My 21 year old son has autism and when I first called to inquire about piano lessons for him Jim, the owner, didn't even hesitate. He set my son up for weekly lessons with Sean McCahill and we couldn't be happier. Even though he can be difficult to teach, Sean is patient and kind and treats my son with respect.
He has learned so much in the last five months and he loves music even more now that he knows chords and is reading music. We feel welcome and accepted at the Music Workshop - what could be better than that?
