Raise Productions began serving the Columbus community in 1985 when Founder and President Raymond Wise shared his ideas and vision to establish a Gospel Music production company and educational facility with his two friends, Frank Lane and Shuryl Sutherland, the former and later served as Vice President and Assistant Vice President respectively. Though Wise had produced events under the name of Raise Productions in other areas of the country, the three friends joined together to establish a permanent home and branch of Raise Productions in Columbus, Ohio.
Services
Raise Productions was established in 1985 to promote ongoing professionalism within the field of gospel music. Raise has a five-point focus: gospel music education, performance, production, ministry, and support services. Raise's purpose is to assist gospel artists in discovering and developing their talents for use in ministry within their local churches and throughout the world.
Though Raise Productions and The Center for the Gospel Arts are not churches, we consider ourselves a ministry. As such, we aim to conduct our classes and services based upon Christian principles and are wholly devoted to drawing out our students' unique gifts and talents. While we are committed to the preservation and perpetuation of Gospel Music as an African American cultural art form in scholarly and secular forums, our primary goal is to offer instruction in the Gospel Arts as a means of preparing musicians and artist for service within African-American churches or other Christian ministries.
I see a place where God can be glorified by the use of every gift and talent He's given to man. Since its inception, Raise Productions has always had the vision of developing a "Center for the Gospel Arts, " where gospel music and art can be preserved and perpetuated and from which the gospel arts can be promoted.
The Raise Chorale comprises 60+ singers from the Raise Mass Choir, The Ohio State University Gospel Choir, Denison University Gospel Choir, and selected members from Columbus Community. Singers were auditioned from each group to develop a special choir for this recording project. The Raise Chorale was established in 2004 to prepare an African American Concert Spirituals concert for Black History Month.
