The Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) is a professional organization founded and incorporated in 1897. The MTAC is among the largest and most highly respected professional music teacher associations in the nation. We are your resource for finding private music instruction in piano, voice, violin, guitar, and other instruments. We offer diverse and enriching local music programs in addition to state association-sponsored programs. Parents seeking a teacher for their child may contact any teacher listed in the Member Directory.
Services
The San Mateo County Branch meets regularly from September through June. Meetings feature guest lecturers, demonstrations and performances, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for music teachers to exchange musical and pedagogical ideas. The newsletter keeps members informed of events and activities.
The Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) sponsors an evaluation program entitled Certificate of Merit (CM). Initiated in 1933, this prestigious program now involves over 27,000 students annually statewide. There are study guides and performance opportunities for students of piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, voice and organ.
One way we have done this is through performing for those who can't easily go to concerts. San Mateo Branch teachers' students perform at Assisted Living and Nursing Homes. These recitals not only build confidence in our students, but are thoroughly enjoyed by the residents as well. Check our Events page or contact Olga Moudry at olgamoudry@gmail.com for more information on participating in this program.
VOCE stands for Vocalists, Orchestral instrumentalists, Chamber music and Ensembles. It is a prestigious competition for the above-mentioned disciplines at the Branch and State levels. In 1971, cellist Gretchen Kuehny Geber and pianist Eleonor Dalton of MTAC's San Fernando West Valley Branch created VOCE as a means of providing solo and chamber ensemble opportunities for students. Since then, the program has grown from five winning categories to ten. In 1998, 244 students performed, resulting in 46 competing finalists.

The music teachers from this association charge so much u can afford them. U should not pay such high price to learn music. One teacher from this site wanted 400$/ month 4 one hour class and 45 min theory class. being a single mom that is half of one of my paycheck. Sad that u can give ur kid music lessons cos they are so expensive
