I've been a music educator since 1989. I can't remember a time when music wasn't a part of my life, but I'm pretty sure the moment of profound connection happened when I heard Handel's Messiah for the first time. I was three years old. I can still remember the magnificent harmony created by a simple piano accompaniment and a hundred voices.
There is such a proliferation of music curricula for young children: Orff, Dalcroze, Kodaly, Suzuki, Montessori, and many more. They all have strengths, and each emphasizes important aspects of the developing musician. So why not combine the strengths for the most comprehensive possible musical foundation?
New Mozart's experienced and caring teachers range from college professors with doctoral degrees to Suzuki Certified violin teachers to jazz teachers to classical teachers who help students win competitions to early childhood music specialists. Our teachers bring their passion and expertise to our students at New Mozart.
Since 1989, New Mozart has been serving the Peninsula families, providing the highest quality music education. Many of our teachers have been with us for years (some for over 15) and are thriving in our community of likeminded educators with a mission to spread the joy and intricacies of music. We currently have temporary and permanent positions available and would love to hear from passionate music educators. New Mozart is growing and we're looking for additional teachers and staff to join our team.

My 4-5 YO took More Music in Me and Harmony Road 1 w/Valerie, and then continued on to private piano lessons w/2 different teachers (all virtual). The group lessons are fun & engaging for kids, and move at a relatively slow pace (which could be pro or con, depending on your kiddo). Unfortunately, we had a mediocre experience with the private lesson piano teachers, having had to switch between 2 teachers in less than a year.

Our first teacher Sophia quit on us with no notice upon my suggestion that she may get a better reaction if she'd try to explain things to a 5 YO in a kinder, less blamey way. She did not seem to understand or enjoy teaching young children, would get irritated when my kiddo moved around on the bench, and was not open to feedback. By contrast, I began piano lessons at 4 YO and had a kind teacher who, due to her kindness, was really able to reach and teach me.

Our second teacher was skillful with children but did not track/remember what song my child was on nor basic info about her progress. Those lessons felt more like we were attending low-effort babysitting. Giving at least 3-stars because Christine (owner) is very professional/open to taking in feedback, and giving some benefit of the doubt that lessons might be better if in-person. I would say there are likely better alternative options - NMSM is pretty expensive for what it provides.

During normal times, New Mozart music lessons are spectacular. These days, we are grateful our daughter has been able to continue her classes remotely with the same quality and care as during face-to-face classes. The online format has worked very well for us. It is remarkable the growth we've seen in our daughter's musical abilities over the spring and summer.

At four years old, she is not only singing in solfege and playing several songs on the piano, but she also enjoys writing her own music for fun. We are very happy with New Mozart and her wonderful teacher, Valerie!

My 5 year old daughter completed Harmony Road 1 and Harmony Road 2 at the New Mozart School of Music with Teacher Valerie - and I have to share that I am so pleased with the Harmony Road classes and I highly recommend it for all 5 and 6 year old children. Teacher Valerie is amazing - a great teacher, piano player, and singer which makes the class very fun for the kids.

When I first signed up my daughter at her 5 year old birthday, I saw the videos on the website of the 5 and 6 year old children playing piano and I couldn't imagine that my daughter would be able to do it because she couldn't even put her fingers on the keys properly. But, sure enough, with the great teaching and great curriculum geared for children, my daughter is now able to play like the kids in the videos.

I grew up playing music and thought I could teach her, but quickly realized that didn't work. I really appreciate how Harmony Road takes children through learning to play piano, which is different from how I learned to play growing up and different from how I would have tried to teach her. Harmony Road starts with two finger songs, then three finger songs, then teaches solfege, rhythms, keys, and chords. Harmony Road 1 teaches the keys of C and A minor, left hand chords, and how to transpose songs and ends. (My daughter plays the happy version and spooky version of songs now!) Harmony Road 2 teaches the keys of G and F, adds in I chords and V7 chords, and covers 3/4, 3/8 and 6/8 time.

It also has children write their own songs. Now my daughter will just go to the piano on her own to play the Harmony Road songs and her own songs. I have to stress that Harmony Road requires parent involvement both to attend class and to practice almost daily with your children (~15 mins/day). I had to push my daughter through some of the practices and we had some tears, but we had lots of happiness as she learned to play new songs. So, I view all this as time well spent with your child if you want your child to get an early start to having a life with music.

I was happy to see that nearly all the children in the class made it to the end and were successful in playing the songs. My only wish was that they offered Harmony Road 3 and 4. But, we're off to private lessons now at New Mozart. Thank you, New Mozart School and Teacher Valerie! One more note: We started Harmony Road 1 in person and moved to virtual classes halfway through and we took all of Harmony Road 2 with virtual classes.

For Harmony Road 2 we had a special accelerated class for the summer (18 weeks of 1x/week classes squeezed into 6 weeks with 2x/week classes). At first, attending virtual classes did require a little more work to make sure my daughter was properly engaged during the classes, but we got into the groove and in the end I was completely fine with the virtual classes.

All the kids successfully made it through the Harmony Road 2 accelerated class virtually, and it was great. I think this is a great opportunity for children who do not live close to the school to take part! Thank you, New Mozart School of Music and Teacher Valerie, for giving my daughter and our family the gift of music in our house!

The owner Christine is amazing. She's so professional and understanding. I heard great things about the Harmony Road program through a friend who had her two kids go through all the offered programs. I had signed my 5 yr old child up for Harmony Road and happened to also want her to try out a 1:1 trial piano lesson with a private teacher elsewhere in the meantime since New Mozart didn't start until end of January, not expecting my child to say she liked the teacher and wanted to continue.

Due to this, I needed to cancel New Mozart but with the new refund policy, a 2 week notice only would result in a 50% refund. I emailed Christine and explained my situation and asked if she would be willing to be lenient about the refund since the class we signed up for wasn't sold out yet, and she was willing to do so! I'm so happy Christine was flexible and understanding. I'm going to try to sign up early next time for a Music & Me class for my 3 yr old before all the good time slots are sold out. Thank you New Mozart!

We have almost completed the Harmony Road 1 program with our daughter and are thoroughly enjoying it. The program is very well structured with clear instructions on what to work on between lessons. Teacher Christine keeps the classes fun while at the same time focused. As a result, we have gone through quite a lot of material at a rapid pace. I think the strongest parts of the program and school would be the focus on parent participation and practice at home.

The kids really enjoy that the parents are there to be part of their musical journey and the strong emphasis on practice means we always make progress in each class. Would strongly recommend anyone to consider putting their children through the school. We look forward to completing the program over the next few semesters and then continuing on with private lessons.

My son took guitar lessons from Teacher Vincent for almost 9 years. Because of Vincent's guidance, my son became the guitar player for his high school jazz band and played many combo gigs. Teacher Vincent is the best! He is a fabulous player, performer, teacher and friend to his students. He is incredibly kind and cares very much about the needs of each student. Also, he is incredibly versatile in teaching all styles of music- if your child is a singer/songwriter, an electric guitar shredder, or a jazz player, Vincent knows it all. My son is so lucky to have worked with Vincent. We give him our absolute highest recommendation!

From the teachers to the front staff, the entire school has been an amazing experience for our family. Teachers Barbara and Catarina are so gifted in their ability to work with young children and from registration to scheduling, the staff are responsive, accommodating and a pleasure to interact with.

I would add one more positive feedback - our son has been a student with Ms Irina Behrendt for over 8 years. Irina is passionate and remarkable, whose ability to inspire the younger to love classical music, "from better to best" amazes me. Highly recommend Irina Behrendt. We never have had an issue with New Mozart Office.

I took guitar lessons from teacher Larry and I absolutely loved it. He is a great teacher and a great musician! The times are flexible, the office responded to all my inquiries really fast and got around sorting my silly schedules off. I can really highly recommend the school.

I used to work for New Mozart for two years. The teaching staff and director, Christine, are such talented musicians and friendly teachers. It was a great environment to work in and it was great to see how quickly individual children progressed at this school. Each teacher has their own individual style of teaching and music background which makes it a perfect school for beginners and more advanced musicians. I thought it was great that we had programs available for children as young as 2 and for adults of any age.

The teachers at New Mozart are amazing! They know when to push (ask you to step out of your comfort zone) and when to teach things! I was taking violin lessons under a different teacher previously, and I immediately noticed the improvement when I switched over to this school. Although the office is not directly in charge of all the teacher's schedules (especially regarding private lessons), it is a minor "hiccup" to work around, simply by asking the teacher about your absence/make up classes whenever you see them :) The front office workers are always kind and ready to help, and it's a great feeling to walk into the campus and hear all the different instrument (including singing) lessons currently taking place.

It gives New Mozart a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend people of all ages to take class there! It's a great experience that's low-stress and open for people of all levels

My older daughter has been attending New Mozart School since she was close to 3 years old. Since a toddler, she has always enjoyed singing and dancing. Going through Harmony Road program over the past two years has helped translate her music interests to the piano in the form of sight reading, rhythm, accompaniment, and even composition. She has also learned that purposeful practicing helps build self-confidence.

Take note that the Music in Me and Harmony Road programs require parent attendance and participation. As a parent who has little to no musical background, I found myself enjoying listening to the Harmony Road music CDs in the car, as well as learning the theory behind each piece of music. The homework from each weekly class may be intimidating but it is rewarding in the long run.

Because of this positive music learning experience, my husband and my younger daughter are now going through New Mozart School's Music in Me class. They, too, are singing to the CDs and playing notes on the piano.

Excellent school. Several of my friends have highly recommended this school for my nephew. The staff is very friendly and the school offers opportunities for students to perform in live concerts. I highly recommend any potential students to attend one of their concerts - very well done.

My son, who is 11 started taking lessons with The New Mozart School of Music in May of 2009. He goes to the location in Hollywood, and the people there are just the best, from the receptionist, Ms. Vivian to his drum teacher Josh. They are absolutely wonderful with my son. My son looks forward to going to drum class every week. Because when he started, he had a passion for drumming but not the technical knowledge or the music reading skills he needed, he has gone from a good drummer to an excellent one. THANKS HOLLYWOOD ACADEMY OF MUSIC! YOU GUYS ROCK.

Mozart would never agree to study there. Yes, they have some talented teachers. Yet - in one year - our 2 girls had to switch from a teacher to another teacher, 3 (THREE) times. Well, teaching music is, first of all, a commitment. They do not care how a 10-year-old girl feels after she had connected to the music AND the teacher, and suddenly her teacher is leaving, or he stops teaching on Tuesday, but he can not teach her on any other day.

Music is a connection between people. They do not understand what real "Harmony" in life is. We felt they run their business without any heart!. It is money-oriented, not Music. I have never wrote on-line another 1-star review, on any thing. I would give them no star at all, if only I could, but 1 star is the minimum.

My son and daughter have been studying music (guitar) at New Mozart since past 4 years. I must admit this was our 4th or 5th music academy and we were apprehensive when we started there since our expectations are very high. BUT We have been thrilled at the quality of the music teachers, the method of teaching and MOST importantly how the teacher (Thomas) ensure the kids are engaged and interested.

To make my point- I don't have to ask my kids to practice- they get so excited about their piece that they want to come home and practice! Also the director Christine has been very helpful when a guitar teacher has moved on by ensuring the kids got the right kind of teacher that suits their personality. This, I think very few music academies do for their customers.

She knows each student so well that she won't hesitate to let us know which teacher works for kids and which doesn't. Goes to show the love and commitment to providing world class music to kids! Also their admin staff is very kind, flexible and always willing to help.

My elementary-school-aged son is a near-beginner guitar student and has been taking lessons with Patrick at New Mozart for the last 7 weeks. Patrick is just phenomenal. He's amazingly positive, nice, funny, supportive, and effective. He has my son jump into new chords and songs. My son suggested a couple of songs from the radio and Patrick learned them and teaches them.

He uses play along techniques, plays piano accompaniment, and has a programmable drum machine. He is able to gradually teach music theory in a way that in no way interferes with the jamming and the fun. My son is thriving. We're on a wait list for additional time with Patrick! The staff has been courteous, responsive, and efficient. I prefer email communications--and they are clear and concise over email.

" Sing your way home, at the close of the day. Sing your way home, drive the shadows away. Smile every smile, wherever you roam. It will brighten your road. It will lighten your road If you sing your way home." You will know the meaning of this song from Ms. Christine and Mr. Herman at New Mozart School of Music. My two sons(8yrs and 6 yrs) started group piano lesson with Ms. Christine.

She was a wonderful teacher one who made them build the solid foundation in music in early childhood for future learning along with songs and dances. Now my two boys are taking private lesson from Mr. Herman at New Mozart School of Music after Harmony Road. He is a great teacher who have taught my first son for three years with high expectation along with step by step guide. I am very happy that Mr. Herman teaches my second son from this August.

My son, now 6+, has been taking music lessons through New Mozart since he was 3. New Mozart's program of group lessons for the young age groups through music in me and Harmony Road are excellent for young kids, teaching them to have fun with music as much as teaching them about music itself. New Mozart teaches the children not just the playing of the assigned pieces, but encourage the children to learn all aspects of each piece (simple music theory, keys, patterns), as well as compose their own pieces--from the earliest age!

My son loved all his teachers of the early group classes; he is now enjoying private classes at New Mozart with teacher Herman, who is clearly attuned to my son's abilities and interests. I am really impressed with this music school.

My family has been doing business with the New Mozart School of Business for seven years. My son took bass guitar lessons from 6th grade through his junior year in high school. Teacher Vincent was very supportive through the college application process, and my son is now minoring in music at Tulane University. I'm in my fourth year of voice lessons and the 2nd full year of piano.

My teachers are excellent musicians who are very skilled at teaching. They're also very supportive and take an interest in ensuring I develop my music skills and opportunities to perform to the fullest. In addition to the skill of my teachers, I really like the academic school year format of New Mozart. I tried private in home lessons when my son was in 9th grade, but teacher cancellations and the lack of formal structure made for a poor music education experience. The academic structure and policies give me, and the musician teachers, the support needed for a very effective and rewarding music education experience.

I love this school, I am learning how to play the guitar here for nearly two and a half years and I am so happy. I always wanted to learn music and Mozart school of Music has changed my life! The teachers are excellent, the office staff is extremely helpful and patient. Christine, the Director of the school is a wonderful person and takes personal interest in everything that goes on here and even knows everybody's names and their progress, she is ever present with a smile on her angelic face. If you are considering to learn music, this is the place to be. I recommend this school highly.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons at New Mozart for the past two years; she started when she was 5. She also took voice lessons for one year with teacher Diane who is excellent (she only dropped because she had too many other commitments, not because she didn't enjoy lessons with Diane). We've had a positive experience with both teachers and fortunately my daughter still enjoys practicing and playing piano at home.

My only complaint is that they are very strict on their make-up lesson policy (you are allowed at most 1-2 make-up lessons and only if the child was absent because she/he was sick). The policy proved to be very inflexible for us especially when other commitments came up.

Both of my kids took Harmony Road (group piano) lessons at New Mozart from their pre-K years all the way to HR IV. All of us had such a great time there! The teachers were fantastic! They made the classes so fun and exciting. I've always been amazed by how much the kids learned and achieved while having so much fun and making friends. Now they move on to private lessons.

Their teachers are impressed by their solid training of music knowledge and skills. New Mozart School also exposes them to other lessons, instruments and teachers by free classes, recitals, faculty concerts, etc. We were lucky to get to know New Mozart from my daughter's preschool friend. It's eye opening for all of us!

My daughter started her first ever music lesson at four year old with the Harmony Road group lesson in NMSM. She enjoyed it thoroughly and liked every teacher she's been with, especially Christine. She progressed fast and the school was flexible enough to allow her skip programs to adapt to her level as well as inviting her to the recitals at early age.

Through the program, she has learned quite a bit in notes reading, piano playing, singing, even music composing (and all this while having fun)! She's now been in the private lessons with the school and still enjoys music making. We couldn't be happier with NMSM for music education.

We have had two kids at New Mozart for about a year, and I've found it a good experience. The thing I've liked the best is the range of instruction styles from very good teachers. Our daughter's current piano teacher, Leah, is more formal in her expectations, and I've seen my daughter's attention to detail improve dramatically.

Over the summer she had summer session with Danielle, who really gives the kids a love of music, and last year she had lessons with Robert, who encouraged her to create her own songs -this for a six year old just starting lessons! I think each teacher's personality has broadened my daughter's music experience, and the proof is in the fact that she hops on the piano at any chance.

Our son takes guitar lessons with Vincent, who is a more of a rock guitar teacher -in fact he teaches a class called "rock band" or something like that. He's really patient, really connects with his students, and it was fun at our first recital last summer to see Vincent's students all on stage at the same time, rocking out to "I love rock & roll." Now Vincent is teaching our son a song that he can play as a duet with his sister!

We chose New Mozart after looking at another local music / art school. At that place, we were told we'd need to make an appointment to see the director, and fill out an application -for two grade school kids to take lessons!?! At New Mozart, we chatted with the staff, who looked up lesson availability right then and there, and we left the office as customers. Recitals happen twice a year, and we're not sure if we're going to do them all, or just be a "summer recital" kind of family, we'll have to figure that out, for younger kids the recitals can get long. I'd definitely recommend New Mozart if you're looking for music lessons in the Palo Alto area (studio locations above a church near midtown, and above Pizza My Heart downtown). A heartily deserved four stars! (So why not 5 stars? I've saving my 5-star review for Julliard, when my kids get in there)

I started to take violin lessons from Michele last year. At the beginning not only could I not play any musical instruments, I couldn't even read musical notes. Therefore, going into this I really didn't have very high expectations that I would improve much in a year. Fast forward to today and I now manage to read musical notes and play the pieces written by classical composers such as Bach, Handel and Brahms!

This is all thanks to Michele, she is an amazing teacher. She encourages me when I'm down and pushes me when I get lazy. Once you start taking her class, you will realize she is as an accomplished musician and an experienced teacher. She is also very clever, and that helps to have her students achieve the goals. Thank you Michele, you are making my dreams come true!
