Okemos Music Academy takes learning music seriously, while also encouraging our students to have tons of fun! We are more than a studio in a basement or a mom teaching lessons as a side hustle. We are a professional studio with full-time desk staff available to answer your calls and emails and bring the love of music into your home! My daughter LOVED her first lesson! She had a huge smile leaving and immediately starting practicing the new things she learned.

Services
We believe that the best way to learn music is with one-on-one, private instruction. Each lesson is tailored individually, for the way the student learns best. We take into account age, experience, personality, and learning style. We teach ages 5 - adult! It's never "too late" to learn how to play music.
Sign up is easy and parent-friendly. You can register online quickly and easily, finding the perfect teacher and day/time that works with your schedule. Our office staff is always available to help you 7 days a week as well. Because we only offer lessons on a month-to-month basis, there are no large upfront payments, no complicated contracts, no annual material or performance fees, and no semester minimums.
Each of my three kids have taken lessons at Okemos Music Academy. They love going to lessons. The teachers are upbeat, knowledgeable, and wonderful with my children. They make lessons fun and challenging, and I appreciate the help making music a part of my house. There's nothing more wonderful than the sound of my own kids making music on their instruments!
Here at Okemos Music Academy, we're always looking for ways we can improve our lesson experience and give our students more. I had a great conversation with the owner recently. I'm not sure you'll every meet someone with more passion for his school!

My niece has been taking piano lessons here for several months and she gets so excited on her "piano day" every week. Not only is she excited to come and getting a lot of joy out of the lessons, but she's starting to sound pretty good on her songs. These guys have a real attention to my niece's needs and a great conscientiousness. Can't recommend more highly.

Both my husband and daughter take guitar lessons with Jim and we are so impressed with how easily he is able to teach to different skill levels. My favorite part of OMA is that the instructors teach what the students want to learn. There isn't a prescribed song list or path, the students help drive their musical education and that is fantastic.

My 6 year old daughter takes ukulele lessons and seems to really enjoy learning music. Coming from a house with zero music background it is amazing how they educate them at such a young age. The price is right, the times are flexible and the commitment is too. If your looking to try an instrument or are interested in singing I would highly recommend Okemos Music Academy as its flexibility works with your schedule and will even allow you to try a class with no commitment. They usually have great intro specials too, always ASK! the customer service is also wonderful. Good luck!

I love taking lessons here. I have a great teacher and have made a ton of progress! The entire business is set up to help the students succeed. The atmosphere is like no other academy in town. I recommend the Academy of Music at String Connection to my friends and family, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to begin learning music. String Connection has a great academy with a great mission statement. The instructors there guide the students through their musical education but also encourage the students to add their own creative input on their curriculum, making the lessons fun, something to look forward to every week. This is really noticeable during their numerous recitals where you see students of all ages and talents playing many different instruments and styles from several genres. If you or someone close to you is looking for a place to take lessons, I strongly suggest coming here.
