Our website provides an excellent overview of the programs offered at Charlotte Academy of Music. However, the intangibles, those things that color and enliven our programs, cannot be sufficiently described in print. The caliber, the exuberance and skill of our faculty, the joy and natural progress in our classes and summer camps, the commitment to music theory and a deeper understanding of music, the multitude of performance opportunities, access to guest composers and clinicians in master classes and so much more - these are what need to be experienced directly.
Each SPLASH! summer camp is taught by a Charlotte area professional teaching artist who will inspire and encourage your child!. Summer Camps are not just fun; they help build creativity, confidence and critical thinking. Whether your child is a quiet "behind the scenes" player or an outgoing "center stage" star, this is the place to nurture their talent! At CAM, you'll find Art, Music, Musical Theatre, and specialty Theme camps.
The Disney Movie that has enchanted our hearts and taken the world by storm (sorry Moana, but everyone is talking about a new magical family now!) Come join Mirabel, Isabella, Antonio, and the rest of the Madrigals as we create magical art inspired by Encanto. We'll use our imagination and creativity as we make butterflies, Colombian rainforest creatures, paint our favorite characters from the movie, and so much more!
Karissa is an outstanding artist, having studied art at UNC Charlotte. She has taught summer camps at CAM for many years. This summer, Karissa will also be teaching our Avengers Academy, American Girl, and HogwARTs camps. She has boundless creativity! My daughter has adored every camp she has done at CAM.piano, art and musical theatre.

Several years ago, we were introduced to the Charlotte Academy of Music, lovingly referred to as CAM, due to the exceptional talent of their voice teachers. Our goal was to help our daughter prepare to sing praise and worship songs in her middle school, and after her first lesson with Tomeka, we knew we had found the perfect place. Tomeka not only expanded our daughter's vocal abilities but also boosted her confidence to perform in front of her peers - a daunting task for any young singer. CAM's flexibility, offering virtual lessons and rescheduling options, made it easy for us to accommodate our busy schedule.
Our daughter's journey at CAM led her to Angela Renee Simpson, a renowned voice teacher with a remarkable track record of guiding students to success in prestigious events like the High School Musical Theatre Blumey Awards and even performing at the Metropolitan Opera. This transition highlighted CAM's commitment to providing top-notch instructors with real-world experience to benefit every student.
CAM's annual musical theatre productions became a significant part of our daughter's growth. She auditioned for Willy Wonka and found the process to be professional yet stress-free, thanks to the supportive director and encouraging environment. The productions not only showcased the students' talents but also prioritized their learning and confidence-building, with reasonable rehearsal schedules that respected their other commitments.
Inspired by her sister's experience, our youngest daughter joined CAM's summer production of Annie Jr., directed by Marissa Hertzfeld. The well-organized two-week camp resulted in a fantastic show, sparking our youngest's interest in acting classes at CAM.
CAM's support extended beyond their own productions, as our oldest daughter received valuable guidance from her voice teacher for a high school audition, ultimately landing a role in Les Miserables. The dedication and expertise of CAM's teachers played a crucial role in her success.
The upcoming shows at CAM, including Beauty And The Beast and Beetlejuice, directed by talented professionals like Marissa and PJ Barnes promise exciting opportunities for students to learn and grow. The passion for the arts displayed by CAM's owners, Regina and Jeff Ziliani, resonates through their commitment to excellence in teaching and performance.
As we eagerly anticipate the continued growth of both our daughters at CAM, we look forward to the upcoming years filled with outstanding musical theatre productions and invaluable learning experiences.

Absolutely appalled by my experience with this business. I was looking to enroll my daughter in their weekly “Music Explorers” class. I called to ask for a tour of the facilities, a preview of the curriculum, and of a typical class. I was told that the instructor would call me back and that there may be a video that I could see. The instructor finally TEXTED me back 4 or 5 days later to inform me that she could call me THE NEXT DAY to answer any questions. She also said that I would have to pay a $50 enrollment fee, in addition to the single class fee ($22), and that they don’t offer previews. I even offered to pay for the class, just to preview it, before committing to enrollment, but she refused. When I asked if I could speak with someone in charge, she asked what I’m looking for for my daughter….again, this was still all done over text message…
Please keep in mind that this is all for a simple, weekly 30 minute class for my toddler. We have enrolled my daughter in a myriad of classes, from arts to physical activity, but I’ve never had an experience like this. I hoped to enroll in CAM because it’s only a few minutes from my house, but I will happily drive to another academy that’s over 30 minutes away because CAM’s goals are completely misguided. There are several musical academies that are there for the positive development of children’s passion and love of music. I don’t know what Charlotte Academy of Music’s goal is, but it does not seem to be the best interest of their students or of the parents. I am so completely disappointed.

Charlotte Academy of Music is a great place to learn to play any type of musicial instrument. I have taken piano lessons for several years and I can see the difference in my skills from the time I started. As an adult student I enjoy that the lessons are tailored to that of an adult learner. There is never a shortage of performance opportunities and workshops to enhance your creativity and your playing skills. I encourage anyone that is looking for a great environment to learn music to give Charlotte Academy of Music a try!

We are long-time clients of the Charlotte Academy of Music--what an amazing place! The founder, Regina Ziliani, has created such a positive institution! We had the pleasure of watching Regina open the Academy when the demand grew too great to accommodate students in her home, and have had a front-row seats to see it grow and develop into the joyful, rich learning environment that it is.
Three of our daughters have been/are currently students of the Academy, and they love the positive learning environment, the joy and dedication of the staff, the multitudinous opportunities for performance, and the gentle encouragement to reach and stretch to new levels. The girls look so forward to their lessons, and continue to accomplish more and more musically each week.
The staff are all lovers of music, and it is contagious! I can't say enough great things about Charlotte Academy of Music! I feel very blessed to have found Regina 12 years ago, and expect the Academy to be a part of our lives for many many more years!

When my daughter began piano lessons, the owner, Regina took time to help with finding just the right piano to meet her needs. I appreciate the fact CAM is locally owned. Small businesses are the heart of our community. If you are looking for a great music school with a personal touch, this is the place to go.

We just absolutely LOVE Charlotte Academy of Music. It is not just a place to take lessons, but a community of teachers who truly care about each student and students that inspire each other. It is a family, not a business! I couldn't imagine my son going anywhere else. He has been taking lessons there for several years and has enjoyed lessons, workshops, performance opportunities, encourgement to see other musicians in all sorts of venues, CAM truly is beyond a music school!
