Why choose the NJ School the New Jersey School of Music? We are different. Established in 1958 and being the oldest music school in South Jersey, we have learned a few things over the years. First, our teachers are all dedicated, degree holding, professional music instructors who are passionate about teaching music and love what they do.
The New Jersey School of Music was originally opened in 1958 under the name Medford School of Music by Frank Salicandro, a local business man and musician, who wanted to share his love of music with the Medford community. Originally the music school only offered violin and piano lessons. In 1974 as the music school expanded, the name was changed to the New Jersey School of Music.
Jose Antonio Abreu is the founder of Venezuela's El Sistema, a state foundation overseeing and enabling 125 youth orchestras and youth training programs. Maestro Abreu says the El Sistema is, a social program, but we use music to get there. In their essence the orchestra and the choir are much more than artistic structures.
Practice is the most essential part of learning any instrument. Without consistent focused practice there can be no musical growth. Taking music lessons without practicing is similar to going to school and not doing homework. There are many different philosophies as to how one should practice and for what length of time one should practice.
