I studied with David Joel for five years and found him to be a dedicated music teacherand a wonderful person. I have been playing guitar for many years and studied with different people, however, When I met David I knew he was different from all of my previous instructors. I developed some bad habits over the years and David has transformed my style of playing. I now read music and play more effectively. I always looked forward to my lesson with him. David is an accomplished musician and teacher and also my friend.

David is fantastic! Not only is he a world-class musician, but David has an incredible talent for recognizing & guiding students to their full potential. David Joel expanded my musical horizons, helped me improve my playing, and increased my love for the guitar. He is really dedicated to his craft and to his students. After connecting me with an opportunity to play in a pit band for a community production of the musical Tommy, he helped me learn one of the solos by writing out a note by note transcription by ear.

I learned so much technique and theory from him, not to mention so many great songs -- his interest in jazz and rock is infectious. I am lucky to have found him and can't recommend him highly enough.

I studied with David a few years ago and became a much better player because of it. David goes beyond teaching you things to play, but rather understanding why all the pieces fit. David is an expert on theory, but he also relates to any player at any level and makes the experience of learning fun while also challenging you to better yourself. David was my first guitar teacher, and I am extremely happy that I decided to take classes with him. In the first week he corrected many of my technical issues that I had and explained them to me in a logical manner. Furthermore, he was able to teach me to read music on guitar, something that I had thought was impossible before taking classes with him.

I learned more about guitar in the first 3 months then I had in the past 8 years of self-teaching. David has a vast knowledge of guitar and music in general. He showed me many artists, and showed me how to appreciate different types of music. A lot of the things I listen to and enjoy now would not have been possible without me taking classes with David. Sadly, after 2 years I had a big move across the country for a job and I had to stop taking classes with David.

Until this day, I employ practice methods and guitar techniques that he taught me in those two years. David truly teaches you how to be a life long guitarist, and gives you the skills to continue to improve yourself as a musician and a guitarist for the rest of your life.

David Joel is a master musician and teacher. As a professional and classically trained musician I have worked with a great many teachers and found David's teaching approach to be one of the best I have experienced. His approach is both methodical and in-depth. I found progress came rapidly and consistently. I highly recommend David to anyone interested in learning the guitar. I came to study with David for two reasons. I wanted to become a better lead guitar player and I also wanted to learn how to read music. What I walked away with after studying with David for three years was much more than that. I became a much better overall musician and as a result, I developed a mastery of different pick-style and finger picking techniques I never imagined would be possible for me.

When I started with David, he took the time to assess my ability and current musical level and quickly developed a comprehensive program that I still use to this day. I found David to have an excellent knowledge of music theory and to be an exceptional guitar player. Each week's lesson was built up from the previous week's lesson, and I knew he had a very specific agenda in mind. David was always exceptionally prepared.

From a communication perspective, David is excellent and provides clear, descriptive summaries of his teaching examples. He is very approachable and a pleasure to work with. He is able to explain very complex musical theories to a broad audience which could range from a very technical student to someone just starting to play guitar for the first time. David's passion, behavior and dedication to his students are at level to which all guitar instructors should aspire. It is so clear to me that I made the very best choice of guitar instructors possible.
