Unfortunately my child took piano for over a year here. She was taking 30 minute lessons but the teacher( I should say teachers because they kept hiring new ones) were consistently late and let them out early. So the classes were more like 20 minutes. I finally left for lessons elsewhere when I asked my mother to bring her one day as I was exhausted.
They called me and refused to give her the lesson because I had not paid for the following four weeks yet. I had already paid for the day she was there! I offered to pay over the phone although I was not pleased as her current sessions had already been paid. However that was not good enough. They asked me to come by before they would begin her lesson to sign a new contract. I was appalled. I pulled her out and continued lessons elsewhere.

My son was a student of Shobo for 8 years! We could not have found a better teacher in Alan Chaubert. My son improved a lot in 8 years thanks to Alan who always kept his lessons fun and interesting. When Alan felt that he was getting restless with the classics, he used to switch to jazz and modern pieces if not video games anthems! My son was never bored and enjoyed the variety of the pieces he was learning!
It all came to an end just because he started college in September outside of NJ. Otherwise, we would have never left Shobo. I highly recommend this music school as there are many other teachers just like Alan!

A student can only improve with a teacher who knows how to inspire interests in the subject he teaches. Alan Chaubert is a teacher who takes time to evaluate the student's level, music that would excite the student and technique the student needs for advancement. His musical background provides him with a clear understanding of his students needs and interests.
For adult students like myself, he introduce us to great composers and musicians through his collection of books, audio and visual aids. His extensive library ranges from classical to jazz to blues and pop music. As a child, I had piano lessons. I only discovered Shobo Music School last year. Alan's unique method of teaching continues to inpire me to practice, to improve and appreciate what is to come. Arlene McBreen Cliffside Park, New Jersey

My daughter has always wanted to learn how to play the violin. I visited several schools but found Shobo Music to be the best fit. The instructors are not only highly qualified, skilled and experienced as musicians but also wonderful teachers! Ms. Stella is my daughter's instructor. She actually looks forward to class and finds Ms. Stella to be encouraging and very patient.
I must also add that Pam is a amazing. She greets you warmly as you enter the school, introduces the various music programs and is wonderful at organizing schedules to accommodate both students and instructors. I highly recommend Shobo Music school for both children or adults.

My 12 year old daughter Nicole started her first guitar lesson at Shobo music last year. Her teacher Steve is AWESOME and has inspired her to discover more of her musical abilities. He motivated her to become a great guitar player and she always looks forward going to his class. We love Shobo music. The staff is always on top of everything and very accommodating.
I love their student recital that they do at the end of the semester because it doesn't only enables the student to share their talent but it also builds their self confidence as they perform in front of a huge crowd! Theresa from North Bergen

Learning how to play piano has been on my "bucket list" for a while. I am thoroughly enjoying being an adult learner of piano at Shobo Music. Alan is a great instructor who is flexible with my work/travel schedule and more importantly patient with coaching me. In the last four months I have learned a great deal and have progressed. Here is to playing Christmas songs in 2014!

Alexis Brianna, who has been going to SHOBO for about a year now, started her piano lessons with a so-so attitude. But over time, with the encouragement of her teacher, Ms. Anna, and her patient and respectful approach to teaching, Alexis has come to take her lessons more seriously and with much interest. Every after lesson, I always ask Alexis how her time with Ms. Anna went and she always eagerly replied that Ms. Anna thought that she did well. Ms. Anna always has a nice, encouraging and motivating word for Alexis. Alexis comes from a family of music lovers and instrument players but it was through Ms. Anna that she got truly motivated to take her music lessons seriously. I highly recommend SHOBO Music School to music students and hope that the school recruits more instructors as competent and motivating as Ms. Anna,

This place is a hidden gem of a music academy only minutes away from NYC! My sister and I went to this music school for years and loved every minute of it! This place has top notch instructors, and a lot of variety available in what types of instruments and music styles you can study. Definitely would recommend!

I started taking guitar lessons at Shobo Music with Roland - and its been a fantastic experience thus far! Roland mixes theory with a lot of contemporary music in his teaching, and is always mindful of one's specific areas of interest as far as music genres go. and he's a very patient instructor! my girls learn piano at this school as well and they love it too. Definitely a great school for music fans of all generations!
