Collins Piano Tuning is a tiny corporation that is owned by Brent Collins. Brent has been a pianist from childhood and has acquired roughly 30 years of knowledge and training in music performance and theory. Early in 2002, Brent developed interest in piano tuning and technology. In the course of three years, he joined the Piano Technician's Guild and became a Registered Piano Technician.

Your piano is designed to sound its best when tuned to A-440 (A above middle C vibrates at 440 cycles per second), the international pitch standard. At this pitch, power and tonal range are optimum and your piano will match the pitch of other instruments. When your piano varies from A-440, pitch adjustments are required to bring it back to standard.
As a conscientious piano owner, you probably have your piano tuned regularly by a qualified technician. You may, however, notice a deterioration of its performance despite regular tuning. It's important to note that tuning is only the adjustment of the system of strings and pins that determines the pitch of each string.
Your piano is made primarily of wood, a versatile and beautiful material ideal for piano construction. However, being made of wood, your piano is greatly affected by humidity. Seasonal and even daily changes in humidity cause wood parts to swell and shrink, affecting tuning stability and touch. Extreme swings in humidity can eventually cause wood to crack and glue joints to fail.
Every piano has its own unique sound. One might be described as 'glassy, ' another as 'warm'. One might have a 'full singing' tone, and yet another sounds 'thin.' Although the original design establishes the basic character of your piano's tone, your technician can modify it to better suit your taste or restore its original tone if it has deteriorated with age.
The piano is unique among musical instruments because it also serves as fine furniture for the home. In fact, the term "piano finish" has traditionally been used to describe the highest standards in wood finishing. Properly maintaining that fine finish will enhance your home's decor and preserve the value of your piano.

I've used Collins Piano tuning twice now for an almost new Pramberger upright piano. Brent is an exceedingly nice guy, and a good tuner. My problem is that during his last visit Brent couldn't figure out how to put the fall board (keyboard cover) back on the piano correctly. My piano has, or I should say had, a soft-close mechanism to keep the lid from slamming down on your fingers. Brent struggled with it for almost half an hour, and then ended up snapping off the metal mechanism itself, saying, "it had to be done to get it to close".
He then packed up his tools, took his payment, and left. Now I'm stuck with a damaged piano, and at no point has he ever offered to compensate me for the damage he caused. If you have an old beat-up piano, I'd say Brent would be fine, but I would never trust him with a valuable one. I'm sad to say I will be looking for someone else next time.

We have used Brent and Collins Piano Tuning for many years. Not only does he offer great rates, but our piano always sounds amazing after Brent does his magic. He was also able to fix a funny buzzing sound that used to come from the inside of our piano. I highly recommend Brent & Collins Piano Tuning!
