Services
We believe that the best way to learn music is with one-on-one, private instruction. Each lesson is tailored individually, for the way the student learns best. We take into account age, experience, personality, and learning style. We teach ages 5 - adult! It's never "too late" to learn how to play music.
Our piano teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn a classical sonatina, rock chords, or popular sheet music, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons.
Our guitar teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading, and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that at each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song.
Our private voice teachers primarily focus on popular music and musical theatre songs. If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel, theatre, or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you! Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, diction and more.

We had a poor experience at Onalaska music academy. Poor management. Double charged in one month and the manager called me on the same day to ask for my credit card information so she could charge a third time. My daughter's music teacher kept rescheduling with us when she couldn't be there. I felt like they should have had another voice teacher on hand to substitute.
Her voice teacher stood us up for a lesson she had us reschedule for. As a busy mom this didn't work for us. I expect more when I pay $90 per month for a 30 minute lesson per week. I hope they can fix these issues because we need good music programs in the area.

I just had the privilege of meeting with Lynn, the owner of Onalsaka Music Academy. Wow! She is such a passionate, educated, inspiring woman. Once Jaxson turns 4, I am definitely signing him up for lessons. Best part is that he can try a variety of instruments. Music is so great for these young kids and I am excited to have found a place that rewards kids for progression. Trophies and bracelets will keep him motivated on practicing.

There is no question that our previous instructor is an excellent pianist and many of the other teachers very talented musicians. And if our child had wanted to be a concert pianist, this would have been a good place for them. We weren't' so concerned with the skill level our our child and were more concerned that she enjoyed her craft/art. And in this case I'm not sure that OMA was right for us.
With regards to business practices I can't agree with all of OMA's choices. I felt there was an overall atmosphere of 'How can I make more money?' Radiating from the studio. And I got the impression that lesser skilled students were tolerated because they payed the bills. When we tried leaving the studio, our bank payments weren't stopped. When we tried to get reimbursed, the check was stopped BEFORE the date they requested we cash the check by.
So we were charged for a stopped check in addition to getting charged an extra month's tuition. When I called to discuss this, I was told that we were being rude by not cashing the check right away (we were given less than 30 days from when we received the check), I was really not allowed to speak and then got hung up on. The studio did later send 1/2 month tuition to us in cash feeling that it was all that was required of them. In this business, the customer is definitely NOT always right.
