I teach ages 10 and up in person at my home recording studio located in the Lake Magdalene area Bearss/N. Boulevard in Tampa, FL. If you are looking for guitar lessons that are going to take you to the next level with solid, structured course materials and are wondering how to pick a teacher, you've come to the right place - that's awesome!
Choosing the right guitar teacher is an important decision.
There are LOTS of great guitarists out there, but not all of them are great teachers. I believe in keeping my students motivated on the guitar and have been teaching in Tampa for over 30 years.

For starters, I'm a 40 year old that never really learned how to play a guitar properly. I had minimal skill, if you could even call it that. My goal was to be able to play some songs for my friends and family. While I understand practice is the key to getting good on the guitar, Virgil guides you in a way that is custom tailored to your situation.
If you want him to take the lead, or you have your own idea of the direction you want to go, he will accommodate. I have learned things much quicker than I expected to, and it came as a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend giving him a shot if you're serious about learning.

Anyone searching for an excellent guitar teacher in the Tampa Bay Area, look no further than Virgil! Learning the guitar with Virgil has been a fantastic experience. Unlike many other guitar teachers out there, Virgil has an actual curriculum that is followed in order to help you learn at a much quicker rate than any other alternative methods to learning guitar that I am aware of. Virgil has a way of keeping things fresh and engaging with every lesson, so you don’t need to worry about losing interest after a few lessons.
Aside from being a guitar guru, Virgil is an awesome person to be around. You’ll get some good laughs in between learning! I couldn’t be more pleased with how quickly I am picking up everything that Virgil is teaching me. As someone who has tried the whole ‘teach yourself via YouTube videos’ thing in the past, I can honestly say that I have learned in months what would have taken me years to figure out on my own from online resources. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, Virgil is the man to go to!

Once upon a time, Virgil and I hung out for a bit after my lesson with him ended. During this time, he wound up showing me some of his favorite songs. When I asked him, "What does this song mean to you?" he responded, "This is the meaning of life." If you want to learn how to play guitar, I cannot recommend anyone or anything like I can lessons with Virgil Mandanici.
He's got an awesome sense of humor, a true gift with the guitar that he has honed for 47 years, and a passion for sharing this gift with others that makes it impossible not to feel inspired. He's a genuinely good guy who loves music and helping those of us who feel a need to be able to create and share something of our own with the world.

I have been taking guitar lessons with Virgil over 9 months. I'm lucky to have him as my guitar teacher and mentor. He is knowledgable, professional, and funny. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn guitar, even if you are far from his studio (he offers online classes through Zoom, which is also great from my personal experience).

Virgil is an exceptional guitar player, excellent at playing old style rock and has an amazing tone. He showed me alot and certainly throws his heart into teaching. I was sad to go. I had to leave town because circumstances warranted it. Would have kept taking lessons if I could of. I would recommend him to anyone looking to gain guitar skills he makes you remember. Thanks Virgil.

Virgil is a one of a kind teacher, in the sense that he is not afraid to tell a student when they are underperforming. Many teachers avoid making such comments for fear that the student may switch instructors or stop taking lessons, but not Virgil. He will constantly bring attention to your weaknesses. This is a hallmark of a great teacher, and something that is becoming increasingly hard to find in this day and age.
If you genuinely want to become proficient at playing an instrument, having someone to lay the hammer down and push you is required. Virgil's lessons offer nothing short of that. His passion for guitar and music is second to none.

Ever since the first lesson I knew I made the right choice. From the get go Virgil will have you learning hands on the basics of chord structure and music theory which in no time at all translates into soloing, improvisational work, and potentially song covers. Before you know it you will be able to pull off wicked guitar techniques, playing your favorite songs, and even explore making and recording your own music. Virgil also does a great job of tailoring each lesson to the goals of the student, prioritizing understanding over perfection and ensuring you are never overwhelmed.
I can honestly say in the time I have spent learning with Virgil, I have seen not only a radical improvement in my playing but also in my understanding of the instrument as a whole.

Highly recommended. Virgil taught me theory based starting pentatonic scales within a few months I could run through the scales in any key. Following lesson the following lesson Virgil will follow up and make sure you practiced and learned the material. It's recommended you practice between 30 minutes and an hour a day. I saw substantial progress over the course of the year and have a fundamental understanding of theory and techniques. Like anything else, you get out what you put in and with some work and discipline working with Virgil you'll improve dramatically.
