One of the biggest problems with learning how to play the blues is knowing where to start. 5 Star's 14 Blues Solos for Guitar offers 14 short, easy to digest, 12-bar blues solos designed to give the novice a secure foothold in the art of being down-and-out. The package includes a book in which the 14 solos are presented in tablature and standard notation, and a CD recording of each solo set in a band arrangement. Particularly impressive is how simple yet memorable and well composed, each example is.
You can boost your rhythm, lead and improvisation skills with Five Star Music's play-along method for guitar, bass, and ukulele. These books sum up years of developing, organizing, and fine-tuning thousands of lessons into booklet form clearly charted out in tablature and standard music notation. The play-along audios are the result of 30 years of teaching and recording experience. The method provides recorded accompaniment to the written lessons. All songs are recorded exactly as they appear in the books.
Listen, and respect your child in the decision-making process concerning whether they'd like to take music lessons, and if so, which instrument they would like to learn to play. Remember, just because your child is a small person doesn't mean that they don't have big feelings. Parents who support their children's musical endeavors are providing the opportunity for creativity, self-expression and achievement. This could be one of the best gifts you could give your child. Studies have shown that music education is beneficial for your child's brain.

One of the best places to learn music and how to play an instrument. The teachers are patient and teach at the students pace.

Took lessons with Mark for a couple years. Mark is always open and willing able to readjust the direction our lessons. I also was able to get great feedback on my form/technique.

I've been going to the 5 Star School for Music for 2 years now and studying under Kevin. I can't say enough good things about my experience. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. As a 40 something adult learning guitar after not playing since I was a teenager I was nervous if I would be able to learn an instrument. Kevin has been very patient and encouraging.

Every lesson is fun and I feel I'm constantly improving. They have their own curriculum which I found so much better than the boring old book I was forced to use as a teen. Kevin also is a fantastic musician in his own right and knows how to play almost anything I can think of to ask to learn. If you're interested in learning an instrument and have fun while doing it this is the place to go.

I've jammed with musicians at 5 Star School for Music many times as part of their weekend workshops and individually with Mark working on my keyboard and general musicality. Always a great experience. Since COVID-19 hit, I decided to pick up Bass guitar and have now seen the other side learning an instrument from scratch and again a great experience. Super positive and fun place to learn to play music for life!

I have been working with Mark for a while now and he is a great teacher. He has an enormous range from basic theory (which I need) to complex arrangements. He has been great working through pieces with other players. The studio is excellent compared to most places I have been because it has mics, is large and spacious. 5 Star is awesome.

Mark is an amazing teacher. I have been taking bass lessons from him for about 7 years. I have learned so much from him. He stepped my game up, so many levels. He is such a relatable, likeable person that makes the lessons fun, that's why I have been coming here for so many years.

I was taking lessons on the guitar/bass and finally the Chapman Stick with Mark from1985 until 1999 when I moved out of the Bay Area. He and I have continued our collaboration long distance via snail mail in the beginning and phone calls to a more modern approach. His method of teaching, with patience, the novice to the journeyman is above expectation.

He always goes above and beyond the mere lesson to see that I receive the best instruction possible. Highly recommend 5Star School for Music to anyone who wants to take up music!

Karen has been super patient with me! I'm a very novice singer and she was able to help me get much more comfortable with my voice(Super shy about singing in head voice aka falsetto) She also teaches you many exercises that allows you to become a better singer!
